So I was wondering about the gpa weighting of the AMCAS system after reading the 2009 guide. So my school uses a 4.0 numerical based grading system allowing as student to get any grade between .7 and 4.0. After reviewing the AMCAS weights, does this mean that a 3.6 will be weighted as a 3.3?

I have tried to find an answer to this question without success. Consider calling AMCAS for an answer (and posting here to let us know), or you could PM a mod to move your post to the pre-allo forum where more folks will read it that might know the answer from personal experience.

weird.

I don't think they would round a 3.6 down to a 3.3 (it would make more sense to make it a 3.7 I would think..) but yeah, I think you would have to ask AMCAS directly.

I've never heard of this! I wish my school did this!
We actually used to have a 9-point scale which is really strange.. but that was before I came here.

Based on my limited experience (only two classes at U of Washington with non-trivial grade conversions) it looks like they try to round it to the nearest alphabet based system grade. My 3.9 became an solid A and my 3.5 became an AB. Though in my case I haven't seen +/- used, my best guess is that they will round 3.6 to an A- (but of course, this is just speculation on my part).

That's interesting, I'm taking all my undergrad at UW. I guess it could hurt you or help. The thing is, did the school that you took the majority of your classes have the A to AB system?

Nope, I haven't even heard of the AB system before AMCAS. My other school used A, A-, B+,.. and those grades are counted as such.

Did anyone ever find out the answer to this? I am having trouble as well.
