So I got personalized feedback from one of the newer schools, and while the kind admissions person focused on late application and lack of clinical experience being the big damage to my candidacy, she also mentioned that my AMCAS ID is way too old, as it's been 7 years and the AMCAS ID numbers now start with "13" instead of "12" like it does on mine, and that's a red flag. She didn't say it was a big one, but one that will be a hurdle.

I guess my question is, should I register for a new AMCAS ID and use that? I have scoured the AAMC website to find something against this, but aside from being honest on your application, applying for a new ID doesn't appear to be forbidden.

I could be wrong but I thought having duplicate ids is grounds for terminating your application.

I have never heard anything about that so I cannot say definitively. I will say that I was accepted this cycle with "12" so I mean it couldn't be that big of a dealbreaker. Any other more recently accepted "12"'s out there?

I think if there's a chance that your application could be jeopardized, I wouldn't risk it- I have the feeling AMCAS wouldn't allow you to do it but you can always email/call and ask

Accepted 12(i.e. old reapplicant) checking in! My account was still active when I attempted to take the MCAT again and boy did I have trouble remembering my user name .

Applied to 16 schools and no ADCOM said a word to me about my AMCAS ID.

That's odd... I applied last cycle for the first cycle and my AMCAS ID begins with 12....
