Does anyone know if AMCAS accepts updated letters of recommendation?

(e.g. I've already submitted a letter that was written last year and my prof has given me an updated letter that I wish to submit)

Sorry i couldn't find this answer anywhere and AMCAS operates on stupid east coast time!

i kind of have an answer for you. well, i'll just tell you what happened and what i know.

i had a prof accidentally submit a letter to AMCAS without letterhead. i asked him to resubmit it properly, and he did. then, i was worried AMCAS would consider it as a redundant letter and not forward it to the schools. i contacted AMCAS, and they said that they upload ALL letters that they receive into their database, and the schools that you apply to can log in and download every single letter you have to your account. so in my case, my one recommender has a letterhead-less letter, and an "updated" letterheaded letter.

so, yes, you can have one recommender send more than one letter, but i don't think the system is really intended to allow for "update letters". also, i'm not sure if AMCAS will continue to process letters throughout the entire application cycle.

even though it doesn't guarantee all schools will see it (because of the timing of when they mark you complete and then review your file), i would say just go for it and have the updated one sent.
