AMCAS: Science Course Labs

I know that many schools list in their requirements upon entering: "one year of bio, chem, physics, and organic chem, all with labs."

Some Questions with this on the AMCAS:::
1) my AP science courses - included labs but there is no way to prove this on the transcript... can I just check off the box for "Lab included"?
2) Studio vs. Lab - one of my Introductory Bio classes only had a studio with it (computer-based), but I also took more advanced bio lab coursework anyway... so can I check off my Intro Biology as "Lab included" and explain that it was a studio, and then have a other bio lab courses there as backup to say I still fulfilled one year of bio with lab?

I just don't want to get cut from the pile over something stupid like this when I have an otherwise great application... I also don't want to be accused of trying to "cover-up" not having an actual "This is a pipet and uL stands for microliter" Intro Bio Lab when I have worked with shiit far more complicated than that...

Help would be appreciated. Thanks. 😕

The studio bio course you took I agree with. You could definitely argue that for lab.

However, with AP courses there is really nothing you can do to prove you had lab, without extra paperwork etc.

I heard that you should count AP credits with pre-reqs. I think that is a myth since you are using it. Have you taken any other bio's?

AP science courses can be used to fulfill those pre-reqs, at least that was my understanding. As for the Bio courses, I have taken about 12 of them in my four years: I majored in the biological sciences and a TON of other science classes, and a non-science minor.

Oh okay. A bit confused. So you are trying to use the regular "bio" classes for the lab. or the regular bio prereqs stuff.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Wait, let me re-read your post. 😕

are you doing your application now, or are speaking of in general in the future?

Some schools will not accept AP credit or will only accept it in limited ways. However, since you took higher level science classes, that won't really be a problem. Your transcript does not distinguish at all between lecture/lab credits? For example, at my schools, a normal lecture courses is 3 credits and any science class with a lab is 4. I would talk to your registrar and/or bio department to see exactly what you were given credit for. They would most likely be able to tell you if they gave you credit for just lecture or lecture and lab. Hope this helps!

If they're listed on your transcript, yes. AMCAS wants you to input your coursework exactly as it is laid out in your transcript. Good luck!

Thanks for the help/advice everyone. I'm feeling a lot better about this now. Luckily, my school's transcript is generally vague. I should be fine.
