Hello,

I am quite annoyed at AMCAS because they messed up my post-bacc GPA and put a lower number than it really is (and it's stated right on my transcript what the correct number should be.)

Anyone else have this happen and how long did it take to rectify? Did it take a long time to rectify? Does AMCAS then re-send your app to schools or how do they get the correct version?

Thanks,

T

It happened to me, and it took a week and a half after i submitted my academic review request. I sent an email to all the schools i applied to allerting them of the situation.

Don't they eliminate +/- from your letter grade. So, any B+'s would only be B's.

OK, seriously, this could have affected you. Also, if your school is crazy and has A+'s which can give you a GPA higher than 4.0 then taking the +/-'s off would have effected you also.

Wait, so the AMCAS gpa is the one that med schools look at, not the one at the transcript. Correct?

That's right. AMCAS calculates GPA differently from your school. So they may not have "screwed it up", you just may not understand how AMCAS calculates GPA. Read the instructions.

Actually, from what I remember, they actually count +/-s. My school doesn't, so it dropped my GPA a little bit because I had more -s than +s. So check on that... if all your grades are listed properly, it's due to their numerical scores, not them screwing up.

Look people, do not underestimate the ability of AMCAS to screw things up big time. Yes, they make mistakes. They overestimated my gpa and I had to send an academic change request. They completely ommitted every single class from my sophomore year. After ten business days it got fixed. My app was processed twice, once on July 1 and the corrected version on July 14 or around there. In the meantime I was getting secondaries. Now that the problem is fixed I seem to be on the end wave of some of the secondary arrivals, which makes me think the latter date is the one schools see.

And AMCAS *does* use +/-

me too...they messed up my GPA making all of my post bacc coursework, overall gpa, & bcmp gpas lower than they should have been. i did the request for them to recalculate and it took the entire 10 business days they said it may take....yep, two more weeks of waiting & i don't know if the schools i rec'd secondaries from during/before the time it was reprocessed will only have the lower gpas....
