AMCAS' slow verification process

I'm getting impatient with AMCAS' slow processing times. They sent me an e-mail last month (9/24) saying they received my transcript but now I'm frozen in that stage. When I log onto the application web site, it has the same message about how I'm in line to have my transcripts verified.

Can people who have recently been verified (say in the past week) respond and tell me when your transcript was received (or you application transmitted if your transcript was received ahead of time.) For example, if your application was verified yesterday, please post when your transcript was received by AMCAS. Thanks.

i submitted mine in mid-late august, sent in transcripts in EARLY august, and AMCAS didn't get around to getting my transcripts til sept. 2.... and needless to say, have as of yet not been verified~

They say it takes 6-8 weeks to verify...so it'll happen at some point. good luck.

Did you just now realize that AMCAS is SOOO SLOOOWW???
Sorry to tell you but it is about a 4-10 week process depending on how AMCAS is feeling the day they look at your application. There seems to be no logic to their processing procedure. Mine took 5.5 weeks.

Good luck and try not to lose your cool. Which is really hard not to do.

So you're at the four week mark and still nothing huh? Looks like I've got a lot of waiting to do. I didn't know it would take that long (6-8 weeks??) I guess there's a huge difference between sending it in July and sending it in August/September. I think my friend submitted his application and had his transcripts sent all mid to late July and everything was finished for him within about a month.

I can only speculate how long it will take people that actually wait until the end of October to submit their primary applications. They won't be verified until 2004!

Would I be correct in guessing that you had your application transmitted and transcript sent to AMCAS by late July? I'm thinking the processing times of <6 weeks applies to people that sent things in early. For people that sent it in somewhere mid August or later, it looks like that time is several weeks longer.

i sent in july and it was verified in 2.5 weeks...but my friend who sent in late, late august has not been verified yet...the amcas verification is an agonizing waiting game, but will end soon.

Nope I'm a August submitter. It took 5 1/2 weeks. Although I know it took longer for others. I applied 2 years ago when AMCAS first went online and it took 17 weeks. So I guess they owed me not to take an eternity

Even July submitters often had to wait quite a while. My transcripts were received on 7/20. I "went active" (got in line) on 7/21. I was verified on 8/15.

The June submitters were the fastest...

I went active like a day after you...so definitely post or PM me when you hear from them...I'm just really hoping that they don't have any problems with the way I listed my courses or anything...

I'll post/PM if anything happens with me...

I guess I need to work on secondaries now...

BTW, the only school that apparently is waiting for my MCAT/verified AMCAS to send me the secondary is Northwestern....if someone would be a dear and post the essay questions with approx lengths, I'd be very appreciative.

Amcas was quick for me. Took only 5-6 days in early june. good luck. The wait sounds killer this time of year.

northwestern screens so i don't know if that has anything with them waiting
anyway, they have three essays
first is something along the lines of why you want to be a physician. the second is why you think their curriculum will be good for u, which includes discussing the organ system and PBL

and the third was..umm..i don't have it in front of me, so i can't remember and if i'm wrong, someone please correct me, but its pertaining to what activity u feel influenced u the most

Submitted my app on Sept. 2

Sent transcripts in a few weeks before but AMCAS recognized my last transcript on Sept. 6.

Finished processing on Oct. 2.

Shouldn't be too much longer for you guys.

I sent in a dispute to a change they made to my grades on Oct. 3. Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back about that?

There is a grade on one of my transcripts (summer school breadth class) that was changed from an F to a B. The teacher lost my final paper and thought I never turned it in, so he gave me an F. He found it and the grade was changed to a B with a notation that says "instructor error". Stupid amcas put the F and B in the same semester during the verification process, even though I never earned an F.

Sent transcripts maybe a week or so before.

They sent me an e-mail saying they got the transcripts (in the the e-mail they gave the date 9/8/03...is that a post-mark?) on 9/24.

On 10/10 they said that I was verified.

You should get it any day now, Alexander99.

Now, I really need to get cracking on those secondaries. I was thinking I wouldn't be complete until end of October, but no...

I just hope I'll have some fingernails left by 10/14 when I get my MCAT score...

Thanks for the heads up Ewing. I'm still waiting. My transcript was received by AMCAS the same exact day as you (9/24.) I submitted my application on 9/17 (10 days after you though.) It's 10/16 right now so if my timeline is like yours, I should be verified sometime next week. If not, this really blows.
