Can your transcript be verified before submitting your AMCAS?

I won't have my MCAT score back until July 15th, so I won't be complete until then. But, I want to have my AMCAS up and ready to go, so that schools will see it on the 15th.

Thanks

You need to send in your transcript IMMEDIATELY. Don't wait. You're AMCAS can be verified without your MCAT score.

Very true... I waited until the last minute to send my transcripts last year and it ended up taking over 3 weeks for AMCAS just to get them, let alone process them. So needless to say, I have already sent my transcripts this year and AMCAS has verified that they recieved them.

On a related topic, does anyone know if you can send updated transcripts and update your Course Work on AMCAS after you've submitted your application? I really want to apply early this year but I also really want the schools to be able to see my summer grades. My GPA is definately my weak point, and this semester I'm earning straight A's in 14 credits worth of really tough science courses... but it just seems like such a waste if the schools won't see it. Summer grades come out August 15th, so the earliest I could be complete on AMCAS is mid-September. Is there any way to submit my application early AND get the schools to see my summer grades? Any ideas are welcome.

I'm not sure if you can update AMCAS after you've submitted (except to add schools), but you can always send an updated transcript to the schools you applied to so that they can see your summer grades.

Sorry. Once the application is submitted it cannot be updated.

You have two choices:
1) submit without summer grades and then send an update letter to all the schools with your summer scores.
2) wait until summer grades come out and then submit

Thanks for the advice everyone... it never occurred to me that I could just send an updated transcript to all the schools. In fact, that option has the added bonus of drawing attention to my application a few months after I submit it, which can't be a bad thing. But is there any chance that they'll just put it to the side and not even glance at it? I know the Adcoms aren't lazy people, but at the same time there's a sh*tload of applications they have to look at and I could see how an extra transcript might get lost in the shuffle. Anyone have any experience with this situation?

Hey, I have a similar question. I finished up my 2nd semester physics class last week, but the grade won't be on my official transcripts for a week or two. But I wanted to submit my transcripts asap. Should I just list the course as IP and have the school send the transcripts now?

Yes, you don't have to submit your AMCAS before your transcripts can be verified. I requested my transcripts at the beginning of May and in the last week they've both been verified. They'll email you and it will show up on your AMCAS as "Recieved."

That kind of "verification" is different from the most important kind, namely the verification of your application, which will not take place until after you submit it.

Most schools require that you have sent your Spring 2007 grades before submitting your transcript. I think that's one reason why they wait until June 1st to actually allow anyone to submit a completed app.

To clarify, the AMCAS verification is the verification of your transcript. They check the information you input into AMCAS against the information on the transcript(s) you submit.

It's in your best interest to send your transcripts as soon as possible. This way, your AMCAS goes into the queue to be verfied when you submit it. If your transcripts aren't in yet, then it sits until they arrive. Obviously, having your transcripts sent is comparatively much easier than filling out your AMCAS, so you should do that first.

So when AMCAS sends an email that your transcript has been received, does that also mean it has been verified? Just curious because my transcript was received after about a week but somewhere on the amcas site mentioned that verification takes about 4-6 weeks. 😕

Eh, since we're just talking about 1-2 weeks, you're probably OK waiting. Those who apply in early to mid-June are all considered to be Group 1 for all intensive purposes.

Now if you were talking about a monthlong wait... then you'd probably want to send in as-is.

AMCAS will not verify your application with your transcript until AFTER you submit. Verification means that they will check your manually inputted grades with the grades on your transcript, which cannot happen until you submit your application.

So is that all that happens during "verification"? Or do they do anything else?

So if my school's on quarter system, and finals dont end until the 9th, and grades up the 12thish, I should wait until then to send in my transcript if they require the spring grades?

Straight from the AMCAS website:

What is the Verification process?

During the Verification process, AMCAS verifies your course work against your official transcripts, ensuring that the course information entered in your application matches that on your official transcripts.

AMCAS may return your application to you and you may miss deadlines if major errors or omissions in course listings are found during verification. AMCAS will stop verifying your materials and an e-mail notification will be sent if any missing or incomplete transcripts are discovered during verification.

After your application is verified, your AMCAS GPA is calculated. Your AMCAS GPA may differ from the GPA calculated by your school.

I sent in one of my transcripts on June 12th and it hasn't been verified. I'm getting kind of nervous... it's been about 13 days. My primary university sent in my transcript on June 4th and it was verified about one week later.

I've read that it can take 4-8 weeks to verify... did my second transcript get sent in too late already? Anybody else send in their transcripts around the same time as me?

Oh, and FYI I didn't use the request form that the AMCAS has.
