Hello,

I'm about to submit my AMCAS on July 31st. They have my transcript already. I take the MCAT July 31st too.

cGPA: 3.50
sGPA: 3.49

UCF is University of Central Florida.

I have filled out my Work/Activities section and it looks like this:

Licensed Real Estate Sales Associate
Sales Executive at Marriott Vacation Club Int'l
Volunteer at Surgery Center Of Lakeland Hill
Co-Founder of Habitat for Humanity UCF
Mountain Biking in the Little Big Econ State Forest
Volunteer at Florida Hospital Altamonte Springs
Research Assistant in RNA Riboswitch lab
Teaching Assistant for Anatomy Lab
Founder of Habitat for Higher Learning
New Organization of the Year from UCF

Are my ECs well laid out?

Am I late in the game for submitting all my stuff right now or am I in good timing and condition? I'm scored a 33 on the last 4 AAMC practice tests, so I think I'm prepared. I have all my Letters of Recommendation in to my Pre-Health Committee.

If I submit my AMCAS in the next two days, should I still be in the running for most medical schools?

Thank you in advance!

you see a lot of fanatics out there(including myself) who have been obsessed with getting there application in extremely early... june, july, etc... but in reality, even if you get you application in by late august, you are still way ahead of the game... a lot of schools are recovering from the 2008-2009 application season hangover and havent really begun getting into full swing reviewing apps... still, never procrastinate... if you feel you can have your app in by july 31st without it suffering, do it! but be comforted in knowing that you are still way ahead of the pack... SDN represents but a small percentage of med school applicants... a very biased majority that is typically very driven and thirsty to succeed... by no means should you compare the SDN crowd with the normal...

typical non-SDN applicant - wakes up one september morning, chuckling over a Scrubs episode that put them to sleep the night before, decides they want to be a doctor... they throw together a quick primary with a simple 3 sentence personal statement but still has 15 grammatical errors... and sends away to Harvard, Hopkins, and WAshU as a safety... they schedule for a december MCAT thinking that "it is a standardized test and there is no possible way to study for it so i am just going to go in and give it my all!"... they may briefly hear about secondary applications but neither recieve one or think they are applicable to them... then after a night of partying with the rest of the IT people in their department, forgets about the whole charade...

typical SDN applicant - they dont wake up, because they dont sleep... they are not mortals... but pieces of iron, hammered and molded into all powerful machines... the eat sleep and breath academia... there only mission in life is to make others understand that not all are created equal... oh and they absolutely love tootsie rolls and coffee... i think that has something to do with their devine metabolism...

Hah! You certainly must be a Simpsons fan.

You're absolutely hilarious, man. Thank you very much for the vote of confidence. But how can I tell that you're not a gunner? :scared:

You should be fine as long as you keep up with everything. When you get secondaries, fill them out as soon as you can while not sacrificing quality. You'll be waiting for your scores awhile any way, so the length of the verification process shouldn't hurt you.

I wouldn't say that lateness would hurt someone until we get into late August/September. You are fine.

Also, moving to the What Are My Chances? forum.

You're asking someone whose transcript was verified in early November 5.5 weeks after submission, and still got accepted to med school. LOL. Yes, you'll still be in the running for med schools if you submit now.

Good Luck taking the MCAT. I think you'll be fine with a 32 or 33+ and a cGPA of 3.5.

Your ECs show particularly strong leadership skills. You have some teaching, which is valued. Perhaps you could update us on your physican shadowing and months spent in research. Also, what amount of time have you spent at your two clinical sites?

Are you interested in attending the new med school at UCF? I hear the class size will go from 40 to 60 in 2010, of which 25% will be OOS. The charter class had stats of MCAT 32.3 (range 27-45?) and cGPA of 3.87 (range 3.2 to 4.0). The administration is working to give some type of tuition benefit to the second class as well.

While you are waiting for your transcript verification and MCAT score, you can access essay prompts for your schools at the school-specific threads in Pre-Allo and get them written. When you are formally invited to submit the Secondary, your turn-around time will be a few days and you'll be considered sooner by the admissions committees.

Freezer, I hope you hang out here a little more often and lighten up our lives further.

2 years ago a 6 months volunteering at Lakeland Hill, this year 2 months at Altamonte Springs hospital. In addition, I shadowed for 50 hours an anestheisologist. I also went to medical vocational high school and did rotations around the departments of a hospital for 6 hours each. Maternity, pediatrics, geriatrics, trauma, etc. And, I volunteered in high school at cerebral palsy center with kids, and a nursing home for 2 days each.

Research has been since December, and we're months away from publication, I'm responsible for the project being published.

That was beautiful.
I just hope its true.

mcat= this thursday

cgpa=2.989 (didnt even try freshman yr, did orgo +phys together with an 18/19 credit schedule)

gpa=3.24 (double major, poli sci and bio, graduating in 3 years)

extracurrics= up the roof, and then some (including hospital/clinic)
name in a published paper, from lab internship in high school
started my own diabetes awareness organization on campus

if i dont get a 35, i feel i might not get in any US school.

Take one more class to pull that cGPA above 3.0. A lot of schools auto-screen at 3.0.

The research you mention is fine as is the shadowing. As you may have read, HS experiences are generally not regarded on a med school application, but considering the light recent clinical experience and the in depth clinical experience you had in HS, I hope you mentioned it in your Personal Statement to bring it to adcomm attention.
