AMCAS typo

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Your stats are awesome  You'll get in anywhere you want. I'm pretty sure that the typo won't mean much even if somebody notices that it is there....

I would recommend proctology school for someone so anal.

jk, I am sure some subliminal process in the minds of the adcom readers will probably insert "of" in the appropriate place, a la

"A dog is
is man's
best friend"

The brain plays funny tricks to make itself happy.

Just don't flip out during your interview because the adcom guy has a speck of lint on his jacket.

I had 3 typos in my post secondary experiences section last year, and it was no problem. If you have any specific questions, PM me.

Good luck!

I wrote that I worked at a restraunt. Talk about soundin' like a southern hick...

Oh, and I did get accepted.

i accidentally listed my place of birth as the place that i currently live in now. oops. i dont think anyone will care.

I would imagine that it will be okay. It probably depends on who picks up your application. If they have a hang up about mistakes like that it could be trouble. However, what are the chances that ALL of the people who pick up your app are insanely anal?

doesnt matter. one mistake? dude no worries bro.

I had a similar experience with AMCAS. When I copied and pasted from MS Word, it changed a couple of dashes into question marks - right in the middle of my last sentence. I didn't catch it and submitted my app. They told me the only way to correct errors is to contact the schools directly - not wholly desirable. I guess I'll never be a doctor now.

do you see what happens larry? do you see what happens when you **** a stranger in the ass?

One of my schools asked for a print out of AMCAS. In putting that together for the school, I realized that I had accidentally put the wrong year for a conference that I attended. It was a 2 week conference, and instead of putting it in 2002, I had put 2004. Now, this seems like a small mistake but technically couldn't I get kicked out of school if this was discovered? I'm not sure if I should write to each school ( and highlight my mistake) or just let it go and hope nothing comes of it. 😱

You'll notice they advise you to type the essay directly into that cheesy little text box they give you. If they really think people are going to do that, they can't possibly expect letter-perfect revision. I think you're fine.

I'm confused-- are you referencing my post?

I am in the same boat, I messed up a date putting 12/04 instead of 12/03, my advisor told me I should do an addendum to each school (you could do it along with your secondaries). Its not that big of a deal. I know it may seem as highlighting a mistake, its only a typo 🙂. And if they question it during the interview, you can't be like "oh yeah, I know its wrong, I just didn't want to tell you." Its just better to fix it. They care more about mcat, gpa, and the interview. Its no biggie. 🙂

I might let it go, and liminate the hassle of having it changed. Its true you can get kicked out for lying on the app, if you read the guidelines from AAMC, you are only in trouble if you lie in an attempt to subvert the admissions process. Besides, I highly doubt that any school will actually ever check the accuracy of this listing. So as long as you actually attended this conference, I would imagine there would be no problems. If they call you on it, you can just be like "Oh, I am sorry, I mistyped the year." Now if you didn't ever go to the conference, that would be a problem.
