OK, so I just submitted my AMCAS, and looked at the screen before you submit your application, and my personal statement appears to be ALL ONE PARAGRAPH!!!! When I entered it in, I copied and pasted from notepad, and there were indentations when I looked at it on the application and it looked just how I wanted med schools to see it. Are they going to view it as all one paragraph??? How did this happen??? Is there anything I can do?? Also, am I fairly late to sumbit, or average, or early?

Mine was like that too. I went in, did some back spacing, and put the spaces back in within the AMCAS system. I don't know how it would look to them, but I had to assume it would look like one big block, hard to read and unprofessional.

I'd say you would be early if you submitted right now. Transcripts already in?

This is a nightmare....I spent forever proofreading myy statement in that little box, and ensuring that every paragraph was indented the same amount, etc. I just assumed the "print your application" would be a print out of the box and if it looked OK in the box, it would look OK to schools. I hate comupters, and I hate AMCAS.

As far as my transcripts, they're already in and my application says "active," although I guess it doesn't even matter now. I think I pretty much screwed myself over at any of the top schools I was applying for.

oh please, if they are that anal do you really want anything to do with them?

Happy Independence Day!

I think to make paragraphs, you are supposed to press enter twice so that there is a blank line in between the paragraphs. Indentations don't show up on AMCAS. (that way, you waste two more spaces. smart system huh?)

Oh, it would have been ever so helpful if they'd explained that ahead of time.......

And no, cerb, if they're that anal, I don't want anything to do with them, but I'm afraid everyone will be that way!

Please, folks.... This happens every year . The adcoms are used to it being one paragraph with no indentions. It is fine. Really don't stress about it. It is OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what I did, and it worked.

Kate,

I made the same mistake that you did. There's no point in calling AMCAs, but I plan on printing out a personal statement (properly indented of course) and sending it in with my secondaries. Just a suggestion.

~ good luck!

That's a great idea...I was trying to come up with ways of getting schools another copy, or letting them know that I did care about my PS, but am a computer ******.

Thanks to everyone who has said that this happens every year and is not that big of a deal...I was very worried over here! 🙂
