american getting an mbbs

so, if you're an american citizen getting your mbbs, do you have the same opportunity to match into programs that md/do's for residency? or do they have to compete after those spots are filled? i ask because i have a cousin studying in another country.

Yes you have the same opps as any other IMG.

If you are actually a foreign student from say UK and are applying to the US it may be favorable - you may be novel. It may look bad if you are from the US and went abroad because you couldn't get into a US school, that being said, there are many other factors.

But if you wanted to go abroad for an interesting experience emphasize that!

One of the moderators went to Australia (Kimberli Cox?) maybe you can pm her?

Also keep in mind BMS in Australia (as a point of example) is a bit skimpier than in the US, so you may have to self study that for the boards. They are more clinical.
