Hi , sorry I did not know where exactly I should be posting this . I am an American Resident , a green card holder currently studying Dentistry in India . I have completed 2 years of Bachelor of Dental Surgery in India . Have completed the following theory and practical subjects -
1)General Anatomy , Histology and Embryology
2)Biochemistry and Physiology
3)Dental Anatomy and Dental Histology
4)General and Dental Pharmacology
5)Pathology and Microbiology
6)Dental Materials

Also Pre-clinical in Operative Dentistry and Prosthodontics

I was wondering if it is possible to continue my education in DDS course in USA from the 1st year or from 3rd year of DDS?
OR
Will I have to compete my BDS in India and then try for getting to the advanced dental programme in USA which is a 2-3 year course based on Dental School .

Or do I have any other options on what I can do to continue in USA
Thanks in Advance

You need to finish your BDS course in India to apply to anything dental in America. Without finishing it your first 2 years don't count for anything in America. If you want to come here without finishing your BDS then you'll need to apply to a 4 year college get your bachelors, take DAT, then apply to DDS.

Thanks for the information . But someone said that you could transfer to first year DDS after 2 years BDS so I was kind of doubtful and hence posted it here and do I have to write NBDE part 1 now when I come back to USA for vacation ?

No you can't transfer. I've heard that a lot too and it never turned out to be valid. Also to write your part 1.. it's up to you if you want to write it now after you finished your 2nd year or after your final year. It's a personal preference, but most people do it after final year/internship.

OK thanks a lot let me know if you find out any of the transfer news to be true and one more thing , do the marks I obtain in BDS count when I apply for a dental school or is it only NBDE exams that count and is there any other important exam I will have to take up ?

At the end of your BDS program in India, you are like any other FTD who come to US in search of DDS program here. The advantages you have are --

1. ) You can come to US without any visa hassles. The catch here is if you dont show up in US every 6 months you might have to surrender your greencard. ( Think you know this already)

2. ) As a permanent resident you can apply for a Federal Loan after you get into a program.

3.) You have a bigger pool of schools to apply. As few schools doesn't accept FTDs without greencards.

4.) Rest everything is same as any other FTD.

Well is it true that the tuition fee structure in few universities will turn out to be cheaper for residents and citizens ?

Your question is not right. Fee structure is different for International Dentist Programs and Regular Programs. Fee for the former happens to be expensive.

If you are going for International dentist program then fees are same for all students, Even if you are a US citizen. I think very few schools (with very few seats!) have less fees for their state's residents.

Oh thanks a lot.

What you are doing right is that you are asking questions at the right time.

start early.

getting into advanced DDS is no cake-walk. build your CV with study clubs, paper presentations etc.
