For PD's & attendings: What is your experience with "Americlerkship" graduates? How seriously do you take their LOR's? Do you consider Americlerkships completed within the last year "recent" clerkship experience?

If you are on a real clerkship with real patients and real attending, I doubt the admission committees would be able to tell the LOR was from an "Americlerkship" attending unless they only use a handful of attendings who all give out the same exact letter, hopefully not on "Americlerkship" letterhead.

I looked all over the web site but couldn't figure out how much they charge for their services? Do they think they are the equivalent of a private US professional school and charge tuition at a equivalent rate?

No. They are a for-profit organization who, for a price, will allow students to do rotations at teaching hospitals in the US. It's supposed to be the equivalent of a residency rotation, where students are covered by malpractice and are able to take care of patients. It allows "older" med school graduates to update their clinical experience and obtain support in returning to residency. For people like Turquoise Blue, it may be the only option if she wants to return to residency.

I was actually wondering the same thing whether PD's actually think highly of americlership rotations. maybe aProgDirector or other attendings can give some input.

Have you tried americlerkships before? if so, what was it like? do they give you in hospital experience or is it solely outpatient. are the program's you rotate through ACGME accredited?
