Amgen scholar - info needed

I heard about this program and had a few questions.

1. What does the program look for in students?
2. does it matter what university you came from(tier 3)? What is a good GPA for acceptance?
3. What is the experience like?
4. Would you recommend it?
5. Any other things/qirks?
6. Does it matter (in terms of presitige and med school acceptance) to have an amgen scholar from MIT or Howard?
7. Is being an amgen scholar a big deal? does it open any doors?

1) Looks for students for are aspiring for a career in research as PhD or MD/PhD.
2) Does not matter which undergrad you attend. GPA should be at least 3.6 I'd say. Letters of Recommendation are huge!!
3) Don't know what experience is like, but 'll find out this summer at UCSF
4) Don't know yet. Probably from what I've heard.
5) It doesnt matter which AMGEN you attend, one is not more prestigious than the other.
6)Don't know yet, but a Letter of Rec from an MD or PhD at one of the top research centers in the world could help.
