I'm not that familiar with each of the SUNY schools. I've basically decided against Downstate, but I'm now trying to compare Upstate, Buffalo, and Stonybrook. Do any of these seem clearly more or less desirable than the others? Particular strengths or weaknesses in clinical, research, or location? Does anyone have enough experience with the different campuses to speak to the relevant happiness and competitiveness of the MD and/or MD-PhD students? Thank you so much for your help!

I am a SB MSTP grad.

I had a similar choice to make with the SUNYs. Main difference first glance is funding. I think Buffalo and SB are the only MSTP programs (NIH funded). Buffalo is an excellent program as of course I would say SB is. Back then Syracuse was small with one 1 funded position and 1 1/2 funded but that might have changed.

You should go for a second look and see where you fit in best in terms of locale, personality, and research opportunities. You will be there for at least 7 years!

I chose well considering I graduated no problem, found the field I love, matched in a very competetive residency (ophtho), met my husband and had our first child (last week). So, I am obviously biased to SB!

If you have any Q's feel free to PM me.
