Amoxicilline - once a day

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What do you mean by unlicensed?

But, amoxicillin should never be dosed as that. You need to have a constant serum level above the MIC for B-Lactams to be effective; time-dependent kill.

If pt. was almost anuric, I think it'd be more along the lines of 50-100 mg q8h, you lower the dose, never extend the interval. For B-lactams anyway.

The post-coital thing is interesting, might be right. Should be TMP/SMX though.

If their kidneys are shot, you can give 'em 250-500mg q24....I've seen it before...and I've seen it work before. I'm talking CrCls of under 15....

I dunno, see what globalrph says. That website knows everything. It's like the ****ing oracle or some ****.

or it the other patient is taking another renal holding drug like probencid. . . etc

Yeah - I've seen this. Its not unlicensed, but "off label" & normally dosed for post-coital use.

Normally, all it takes is one & perhaps two doses.

Yeah - it really works, altho septra is the usual drug of choice. But, if you have a pt with a sulfa allergy - this will work ust fine.

I called the doctor, just to be on the safe side. Prophylaxis, pt with catheter. Doc insisted on the dose.
