Hey all! Thought I'd start the above titled post to enlighten us all and share my experience with you.

I applied to a local hospital scholarship for med students. The scholarship was for 10k, renewable for 2 years and can reapply for 3rd year. Applicants they were interested in were invited for interviews. Mind you, I am in a state (although it is in the Midwest) that only has 1 med school and is allopathic. This particular hospital has 90% MDs. I was interviewed by a group of 4 members on the foundation board, one being a FP MD. And guess what? I went up against MD students and won that scholarship!!!! 😀 😍

Congratulations! Further proof that SDN is a whole other world in itself where reality is not accurately represented.

Congrats again!

NICEEEE....but ya being a DO is such a bad thing right?? 🙄

Congrats !!!! You freaking rock. 👍 👍 👍 :luck:

Raven- That is wonderful. wish we were all so lucky as to have something like that available. Sounds like you might be able to live a little easier than the rest of us in class.

Congrats, that really good to hear...go DO's 👍 👍

Congrats!

Now on a separate note, if it's too much $ for you to handle, I'd be more than willing to take some off your hands..

Good job on getting some money.

Hopefuly this will set a standard for everyone to follow. There is no surprise that DOs are the minority here. 5% of physicians in the US is a minority and around the world its less than .00005% prob.

Being a minority could be an advantage. However I think that DOs have to act professionaly and always demonstrate excellence.

Thanks everyone! I do have a service obligation though. I have to come back and practice in the area, if the type of physician I become is in need. If not, then it is all good. Works for me!

Oh, by the way, I'm a dudette! 😛

That's pretty talented if you can do your own bimanual exam.

Times are changing. From what I heard, there is much less discrimination against DO physicians today than 30 years ago. Most people in the medical field do seem to treat DOs and MDs as true equals, and I think things are only going to get better from here on out.
