We have to provide our own at Ross.
But we also have to provide our own microscope for Histolgy and possibly microbiology again in the future. The new chair of the micro dept, Hawley?(brs author) changed the course so there isn't a need for a microscope now.
If so, I think I waisted $900 on a microscope 🙁

There will be plenty of "added expenses" more significant than a $5 box of gloves as you move on in medical school- trust me. No, UC Davis doesn't cover the gloves and apparently they are now requiring laptop computers for all students. Now THAT'S an added expense.

Last year I was provided with a single box of gloves. But when they ran out and I had to go to the Jefferson bookstore to buy more, I found those much better (the lesson being you get what you pay for). Now I use the leftovers when I clean the bathroom. 🙂

Nope, we had to buy our own.

We don't have to get our own. They are provided for us.
Yeah, and they're the nitrile gloves that don't leave your hands stinking like trojans.
Ours are provided, which is great. 😀 Yay for medium nitrile gloves!

You have to buy your own microscope? Seriously?!? Whoa. Why?!? They don't have any? And I thought it would be bad to have to buy my own gloves... (I pay like 20K a year in tuition... if my school didn't toss me some free gloves, I'd kill somebody out of rage. Did you have to buy your white coat, too? How about your seat in the lecture hall... do you have to rent that? 😀 )
microscope expense here is around $200. not sure about the gloves...
All of our histo is done online and with CDRoms... no microscopes at all for lab. I can't believe you guys have to buy microscopes..... 😱
We are all required to have laptops (as have previous classes been), but I find my laptop incredibly helpful. For one thing, I type WAY faster than I write, so it makes note-taking a lot easier. Everything from the classrooms to the small group rooms to the student lounge to the library has ethernet and power hookups. I think it's really awesome that UNSOM is so technologically forward-thinking.

Well, we use microscopes but we certainly don't have to buy them. I am still dumbfounded by this. We've got a couple of rooms at the school that have a whole bunch of microscopes in them, and when you want to look at some slides, your school ID card unlocks the door and you... ya know... use one.

Dude, how often do you find yourself with hands that smell like Trojans?😕
Heh - we get the option of either buying a microscope or renting one from the school, but they aren't provided.

we use all CDs/power point for histo, but I think we STILL get charged the microscope rental fee. now that's messed up...

Never, because we use nitrile gloves. If you have ever had sex (responsibly) you would know that most condoms are made of latex. Latex gloves, therefore, make your hands smell like Trojans. We use Nitrile, not latex gloves. My hands don't smell like Trojans. Hope that clears things up for you. 😉

Plus, you get such pretty color choices with nitrile gloves--dark blue, powder blue, lavender, etc... 😉
its the one thing I hate.
Microscope ran me like $800. We were supposed to be using it but ended up using the histo slides available online by certain med schools and a specially prepared hist cd made a physician/Phd? in the US (his son died here at Ross in 1994).
I went ahead and bought because I thought Id also be using it for microbiology. But since we got our new Microbio dept head, Hawley (brs and high yield author), she has since canceled that lab making my microscope a worthless investment with almost no resale value now.
gloves, I just stole those from my dad's office. no biggie.
