Do you guys think it's a good idea to have anatomy under your belt before taking the PCAT? I haven't taken anatomy yet, but wondered if it would be helpful. Also, any other suggested classes besides the basic bio (cell and genetics), chem (physical and orgo) before the PCAT? I've also had microbiology.

Thanks for any advise.

I've tried looking at nearby colleges, but none of them seem to be offering anatomy (at least next semester). I'm planning to start studying for the Jan PCAT as soon as my Kaplan arrives in the mail.

Did anyone do well without taking anatomy and basically studying from the prep books? If so, any specific books that anyone would recommend?

Thanks again guys.

Hey Halfempty, I would suggest reading the Kaplan biology section thoroughly. I know you said you're waiting on it in the mail so just really comprehend everything in that section as a good review for anatomy.

I didn't take anatomy before the PCAT, and I got a 99%tile in biology. Like the OP said, though, I made sure I knew everything from the Kaplan 08-09 biology sections. I also bought Schaum's easy outlines for HA&P and went through that whole book (I didn't focus on the crazy names for bones and indepth info, just general concepts). I feel that Gen Bio I and II was beneficial as well.

Thanks guys. That's very encouraging to hear. I've started studying from the Kaplan book. Is it a good idea to study from Kaplan alone (is the math too easy?)?

I took anatomy before the PCAT, and I really didn't think it made a difference. It was more biology-oriented and stuff like that. So yea, like someone else said, I would just brush up on bio and genetics and more stuff in that area.

I would concur with the last post that its not necessary to take AP prior to taking the PCAT. I think Bio 2 gives you more than enough info on anatomy.
