  1. Pre-Podiatry
My husband is a current podiatry student. He is very concerned due to receiving a C in anatomy. He has told me that he will now not qualify for a decent residency. He has received a B in the rest of his courses. Does a C really disqualify him from a residency?

A single C shouldn't disqualify him from a decent residency. If he isn't completely set on one particular residency, he should be fine. And even if he is set on one residency in particular, there are ways to make it up. Like j0ez0r said, a good grade in lower limb anatomy could go a long way. Good Luck!👍

Its more important that he understands the concepts/ideas of the subject rather than just getting A grade.

Remember if residency was just given on GPA then it would have been a totally different world. It all depends on your performance in externships. ofcourse good gpa is needed to get an externship position but that doesn mean unless you get 4.0 or 3.8 you are doomed. Many externship programs (from what i have heard and read on clerkship website) require a gpa of 3.0 or higher and some require a class rank in top 25 or top 10 of your class. I have never heard or read anybody asking a specific grade in any particular subject.

His life is ruined.

Seriously, tell him to quit being a cry baby wheeny and learn the material instead of attempting to get a grade and furthermore at this point in his life, he should demonstrate more maturity if he wants to be successful.

Getting a C in any class is not the end of the world nor is not getting the residency you want.

I sure in heck wouldn't want anyone around me that couldn't handle this type of "crisis."

BTW, plenty of "A" students will not pass their boards so what good is an A if you have to take pts 1 and/or 2 and /or 3 multiple times?

So in other words, getting a C will not disqualify him as much as laziness and his inability to cope with life in general.

BTW, most would rather have an honest C student than a lazy short cut taking A student who cheated and has some major ethical/behavioral problems.

But if he is a lazy, cheating, short cut taking A,B,C student, he is definately screwed and won't be successful at anything even if he does graduate and get a good residency. It's just how cruel life is the legal system is full of professionals like that.

Tell your husband not to worry about it. He'll be fine. I wouldn't recommend getting a lot of C's but the majority of programs look at a lot of other things besides grades. Work hard, learn everything you can learn, and do your best. He'll have plenty of chances to prove himself later on. Your rotation at any given program probably weighs the most.

Word on the street is that jonwill got a few C's in his time! 🙂

Sounds like Manion just destroyed the gpa of yet another anatomy student here at rfu lol.
