SDN has a rich medical community. It is imperative that we try to help each other.
This is the idea guys, If you come across any anatomical relationship which makes sense and can be reasoned out easily by intuition... whatever... just post it. Mnemonics help, but they sometimes become too many to be effectively applied.
I think i have to kick start this thread.
This is pretty reasonable.
REGION - ABDOMEN, PELVIS, PERINEUM.
The superior gluteal artery emerges between the lumbosacral trunk, and and 1st sacral vert. it then passes on top of the piriformis muscle
The inferior gluteal artery, emerges between the 1st and 2nd sacral nerves and passes below the piriformis muscle.
remember that the sacral plexus of nerves lies on the piriformis.
INTUITION
---------------
The superior gluteal will emerge between the two major nerves which contribute to the first part of the sacral plexus. which in this case is lumbosacral (L4 AND L5 ) and 1st sacral. since it is superior, is lies on top of the piriformis muscle.
The inferior gluteal will then come from the next 2 in succession.
S1 and S2 . The inferior gluteal artery is inferior , so it moves below the piriformis.
I hope I have helped someone. Let's help each other SDN peeps. Chao.
😉
