We have this anatomy science fair thing coming up at my school and students can sign up to do a presentation on a topic related to anatomy (it's that open ended, really). A lot of my classmates are doing it for the credit we get and... I don't know. It's optional so I could sit this one out but anatomy isn't my strong suit and I think participating in activities such as this would be a good idea to expose myself to areas of our curriculum that I'm not so great at, to challenge myself.

Anyway, we have to declare a topic on the registration form and I'm having a hard time coming up with something. I'd like to do something interesting that isn't so complicated that it would take practically doctorate level research to master and would be impossible to present at an event such as this, but also not so uninspired like the proverbial volcano model at middle school science fair.

I'd love to get some suggestions from you guys!

Seriously, what is it with all these new SDN posters with their first post, posting their real photographs of themselves? First @CountryGirl92, and now you.

The polite thing to do would have been to PM her and just say nicely that it isn't appropriate to post a pic of herself. Don't start **** with her like everyone did with me. People come on to this site to gain knowledge and ask for advice, y'all don't need to bully people for stupid ****.

but for real, the internet is full of creeps...please don't use your real photo, especially if you are a pretty woman...for your own protection, don't

I signed in with Facebook. This was automatic. I didn't upload my picture myself and if it's against the rules, maybe the administrators should rethink a signup option that defaults your Facebook profile shot.

And good lord, I'm new here. I didn't even realize my profile picture was the same as the Facebook one until I clicked to see who'd replied to my topic. Being bitchy off the bat is so unnecessary and uncalled for. It wasn't blatant disregard on my behalf, it was an honest mistake.

No one's bullying you. Most people wouldn't want to associate their REAL picture with everything they post, esp. here on SDN, where there is always the possibility of being identified by medical school admissions or residency faculty, etc. and having it affect their career. It's also for your own safety and protection.

I'd also like to suggest that you disconnect your facebook acount from SDN...basically due to the automatic sharing of info like your photo

No one's being *****y. It's not against the rules. You are free to use any (non-pornographic, of course) picture for your avatar. It's more for your own safety and protection, esp. if you're a pretty woman.

Perhaps we have different definitions of bitchy, but the accusatory tone and general condescension present in this post leaves very little up for interpretation. You sound exasperated, not concerned. Don't patronize me.

sb247, thanks for the advice. I appreciate sincerity. I'll take the necessary measures to make sure my info is more discreet, but all in all, the personal safety issues are on the moneh but regarding anonymity to protect myself professionally, I'm not losing sleep over what my superiors here in Brazil might see. Different cultures, different systems, you'd be surprised at how big a nonissue that is 🙂 thanks again!

enjoy SDN, there actually is a lot of good info to be learned here if you take it all with a grain of salt

Exasperated? Hardly.

As SDN is a US forum, medical schools and residencies do check it, so it's of valid concern to AMGs here. I realize this might not apply in Brazil. Thank you for acknowledging the personal safety issues are on the money.

Definitely! Long time lurker and lots of info here has helped me in the past. It's a helpful board 🙂

Actually you guys can totally use your own photos. And as long as you don't say half of the things you're actually thinking, you will be totally fine on here.

In fact, I'd like SDN to turn into a place where more people are legitimately who they say. 🙂 Put it back up!

Kind of reminds me of the famous "you are what you pretend to be" Vonnegut quote hahahaha does that mean if I put up a pic of Angie Jo, my true self will shine through?? Hahaha
