I am having trouble with my anatomy class and I am completely miserable. We are racing through a ton of stuff, ok, I know like everyone else is, but I feel like the course is disorganized and it's driving me nutts. Also, for the last two lecture exams we have been scheduled so that for the last half of the exam we have about fifty of our other classmates, plus other assorted students sitting right outside our class talking at the top of their lungs. I mean, these exams are killers (for me anyway), and to have to struggle with a loud party going on just outside the door for 30 or forty-five minutes is like, well, I just want to tear up the exam and throw it out. Usually the practical exam ends earlier and so all our classmates come and talk right outside the door until we're done.

I have asked the TA's and the lecturers could we please have another room but they're like: no, too bad. 😱

I can't stand this misery. Is it me or does this seem unreasonable that we should have to take our exams with the other half of the class (who does NOT have the same problem) talking for honestly, 30 - 45 mintes of our exam?

Any suggestions?? I am so frustrated ...

You need to bring this problem up with your class. Here are a couple of suggestions:

Try to get help from your class president or other class officers.
If there's no one in a position like that, send out a class-wide e-mail that clearly states the problem and provides a couple of helpful suggestions to resolve it.
Clearly explain to the head instructor what the problem is, and suggest a solution (other than a different room).

Also, remember that while you are super stressed about anatomy, anything like this will drive you bananas. Other people (the non-auditory types) won't think it's a big deal.

No, it's not just you. That's unreasonable. Talk to your deans. They're the only ones with the power to do anything. And they ARE on your side. Good luck. 🙂

I have asked to make an appointment to see a dean about this. I actually spoke to the course director and he was like, 'too bad, what do you want me to do about that?' which made me really, really mad. It's totally not fair that the other half of the class gets to take their lecture exam in complete privacy and silence while we have to sit and listen to them whoop and hollar outside the flimsy door. :meanie:

I don't like this lecturer, he also seems to have his favorite student groups and ignores the rest of us who are blindly stumbling along trying to figure stuff out in the lab. He seems to like the really smart students which stinks because it's so obvious ... 🙄 I've also asked him for some kind of help because I am really struggling and he was like, 'ok one of these days,' which has never happened. Part of me hesitates to make a big stink about this because I don't want to alienate the professor but on the other hand, he's doing nadda for me except make my life (and other students') miserable.

Ugh!!

I also have an anatomy problem of my own, namely that I am excessively hung.

Regarding your dilemma, however -- wouldn't ear plugs work in your situation? I've had classmates who brought ear plugs to every written exam.

We have a cadaver in our gross lab that's excessively hung. His scrotum is the size of a grapefruit and the penis is proportionally sized as well. He died at age 94... His prostate was enlarged, but would it cause swelling of that magnitude? I wonder if elephantitis is a real disease... this guy's legs were seriously chafed from the sac! Anyone know what would cause that?

I've seen that myself, it's called Long Dong Syndrome. Yep, thats right, you heard it. If you don't believe me, look inside Robbins.

Of course Elephantiasis is a real disease. I'm surprised more people don't know the correct name of it, and more surprised a med student doesn't know. It's caused by an infestation of filarial worms in the lymphatic ducts, blocking them completely. I've seen pictures of a guy's scrotum the size of a bowling ball, but it can also happen in the arms or legs.

We are too busy learning embryology to learn about relevant clinical problems. 😳

You will learn it in Microbiology.

Ugh!!

Do you go to my school? 😳 Anyway, I totally understsand. I would definietly talk to your deans to see if they can do anything. They are your anatomy instructor's bosses, after all.

At my school, the anatomy written and practical exams are held on different floors, and students taking the written exam are prohibited from going on the floor where the practical is (the practical usually takes longer than the written), until the practical is over for the other group. Maybe you could suggest a similar strategy to your dean or course director.

My cadaver had an undescended testicle and varicoceles (vericose veins in his scrotum) along with repaired bilateral hernias. Talk about carma. I suppose with your cadaver it could be a hydrocele, or maybe an indirect hernia, but that wouldn't explain the large penis. Ahh, just chalk it up to the embalming process.

I wear earplugs during every exam, when I am studying, and sometimes when the lecture is BS and I want to do my own studying. 🙂 Why don't you email your whole class and ask them to shut up? 😉 They just might listen if you ask nicely. :luck:

I can offer you my CD-anatomy, thnks to this you can collect dificult parts and exam yourself letter. best for selfeducation! [email protected]
