I know there have been several threads pertaining to the anatomy shelf in the past, but none for this year. Has anyone taken them the past month or two? I have my final anatomy exam (head/neck) Monday, then we take the shelf on Wednesday. Rumor has it that extremeties/abdomen/pelvis generally are most high yield. Anyone wanna share their experiences for this year? How does the "curve" exactly work on the anatomy shelf? I'm thinking about a surgical profession and I don't want to let this be a black mark on my records.

I don't think your score on the anatomy shelf or any shelf is going to hurt your chances of a surgical specialty. That's what Step 1 is for.

I have my final anatomy exam tomorrow too (abdomen, pelvis and lower limb) with our shelf on the 21st. From what the second years told us, the anatomy shelf for the past two years has focused a lot on what we learn third block. But this could change for us.

i took the shelf a few weeks ago. i felt like it was pretty evenly distributed across all the systems/areas - i didnt think it was so bad, actually. i studied mostly from the BRS. i've been trying to work out for myself how the curve is done and i havent had much luck yet...does anyone know?

They are scaled so that the mean is 500 with a standard deviation of 100.

As a recap, the exam was pretty challenging, and luckily it was evenly distributed, though I thought head/neck got the shaft on that test. I did enough to pass, but I really wanted to score 1 SD above...well we'll see what happens. Wish I had studied more about the pancreas too.

Lots and lots of thorax/abdomen this year. The exam was challenging, but they write it to be that way. Basically know/study BRS and you'll be fine.

On a recap for those interested, I used Rapid Review for the content and BRS for questions and in-detail reading for things I felt I needed to know more (but mainly RR). Got almost two SDs above the mean, so I have to say RR Anatomy is pretty spot-on.

So I went and picked up BRS based on the feedback here, and the question sets @ the end (~ 50-60) seem to be pretty good. I was really looking for a question sets, so hopefully this should suffice and resemble the ones on the shelf.

I used that and was in the 99th percentile. Questions were similar and not too challenging.

So BRS is best for anatomy shelf? Would you recommend picking up pre test for questions or are the questions provided in BRS adequate? I have both the Histo/Cell Bio shelf and the Anatomy shelf for my last 2 final exams a day apart. I want to start reviewing BRS for both of these now so I'll have a few read-throughs by time the tests roll around. Any more advice for either of these tests? Thanks guys.

I used Kaplan Anatomy lecture notes, the videos, pretest anatomy- great Q book, and my netters atlas.

i took the anatomy shelf in december... there was a lotta cranial nerves... brachial plexus.. and abdoman... particularly around the stomach / liver area. memorize BRS in and out and you should be good.
