I though Netter was supposed to be God when it came to anatomy, BUT I heard that there are apparently *mistakes* in Netter... Is this something that any of you can verify? I've heard of students who buy the German edition instead because that is supposed to be correct in its nomenclature...?

Any other books (besides Moore and Sobotta) that are worth looking into?

Thankyouthankyou,

I'll put a plug in for my old anatomy prosector.

she's left the school and should be working in one of the chicago area med schools now.

anyways, her dissection pictures are in the McMinn's atlas.

I really found Netter and my syllabus to be sufficient. I also had Moore which I consulted for some clinical stuff, but, there was so much to know that having fewer good resources really was the way to go for me.

I would say if you have a good syllabus, you could definitly get by just with Netter. If not, go with Netter and Moore and you should be good. However, I don't think Moore can be a replacement for Netter. Some might disagree, but for me, Netter was essential.

I have used Rohen's (sp?), Netter's, and Grant's atlas, out of all of them i found Grant's to be the best and if it makes any difference to you my teacher (some of her dissections were used for Mcminn's atlas) said Grant's was the most accurate. Having said that i think you will do just fine with Netters.

Peace

I used Grant's Atlas and referred to Moore and Dalley for clarification. That worked well for me. Some of my classmates used Netter's, but I preferred Grant's. To each his own.

i used to study from our doctors notes and Grant's Only..

the notes wer more than 500 pages and we wer given only 2 days before the exam to study for anatomy..

writen and oral in the same day .. :scared: :scared:

all of us had diarrhoea and migraine in that day ...

Thanks for the input! I'm SHUAH this has been covered umpteen times, but I needed to know...

So when you guys refer to Moore, which title are you referring to? There's supposed to be a "big" and a "little" Moore...? Also, any fans of Sobotta?

I don't think it's worth getting small Moore - whenever I talk about 'Moore', I'm referring to 'big' Moore, so I assume others are too.
Sobotta is not very popular in medical schools in the US. I would say it's the primary atlas in Europe. The reason is also because the labels are almost all in Latin, something that, while valid, is just not commonly used in spoken medical English (with some exceptions). Other than that, it's a great atlas.

Looking at Netter while reading big Moore, and referring to Rohen for practicals did wonders for me.

Jumping in late, but using Netter for your didactic work, with some Rohen for an idea of what the stuff actually looks like on a cadaver, you should be fine.

We used Grant's Atlas in the lab and I used Big Moore for my studies. I really liked Moore, it has great explanations and is good for clarification, plus I'm a textbook-reading-type of studier so for me, it was essential. As an MS-2 I still refer to it, so I think it's worth the investment.

think it depends on your learning style:

i love my netters because the pictures are big and clear. i don't find there to be any more mistakes than in the other atlases, and it gives me a very clear understanding of where everything goes. the problem most people have w/ netter is that he exaggerates things for clarity... one of my profs was joking today that netter "must have been smoking a lot of dope" to make the tonsils look so big... but i say it helps b/c you know where to look.

i supplement with rohan's from the lab b/c it's all real pics and it helps bridge the gap bt netter and the cadaver.

i cannot stand grants, though a lot of people in my class like it. the illustrations are a little more realistic than netter, but kinda mushy and hard to follow, if you ask me.

oh, and i am not a book reader, so i rarely ever use my big moore. my roommate swears by it though - i think it is definitely for book people.
