Well, I verified my application this morning! Sure feels nice. But now, I find myself doing the "track application" function all the time. 😳

Wow!! I think Brian P. is the first one of all of us to get his in!!

Now the race is on for who submits theirs last. Who will it be - me, buttercupp, or quant? 😉

Perhaps we should have a poll.

I have submitted!! Woohoo! Let the waiting begin... 🙂

The VA must be treating you better if you can post on SDN at lunchtime 😱 😉

This is true!! I actually am just such a bad surgery student (as I'm sure your friend can verify) that I find places to hide so they have to page me if they need me. I wrote my notes. What more can they want? 😉

Taking some time to email, check SDN, read the news on the hurricane. Then perhaps I will study.

I haven't even started writing my blasted personal statement yet.

I'll be the last one, probably

Bearyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...............................

What did i ever do to deserve such a low opinion?

On second thoughts, you are probably right, id say the race is between you and me! 😀 😀

Hey some happy tidings here....
I passed the 1200$ lunch thingy....

AM I GLAD i dont need to shell out 1200 $ again! stooopid stooopid!

What ticks me off is that there is no fricking way in the world that you can introduce yourself, take a "proper" history, examine thoroughly and counsel them, ALL IN 15 MINS!.....no fricking way!

If you can do all of that, you shouldn't be practising medicine. Cause a good doctor would never do all of that in just 15 mins. Not on your life.

Congrats!! I am anxiously awaiting my results still--and I took it 5 weeks ago!!

No worries, Stinger: I bet no one even looks at the applications until after Labor Day.

Well, I have now officially applied. I was going to wait a few days since programs probably won't even bother to start downloading stuff until after the holiday weekend, but I got tired of looking at all this crap.

I just verified my stuff...I'm relieved cuz I don't have to read my PS again and change little adjectives and such...let the waiting begin... 😱

Just pushed the button. Woo Hoo!

Cheers everyone, Beers all around 😉

I am gong to submit tonight or tomorrow, but minus any LORs or anything that the student office needs to update

Me likee dat!!!!!!!!!

Beer..........The water of life. Wait, that s whisky! 😀 😀

I am actually amazed that the VA doesn't block SDN like they block espn.com and theonion and other such websites. 😳

I submitted mine last night! Pushing the verify button was so scary, but now I don't have to worry about it anymore. Now the waiting begins. I think only 1 of my letter writers has actually submitted a letter so far...should I be worried about this??

It's crazy how I thought my personal statement was pretty good before I submitted everything, but now that everything is finalized I think my personal statement sounds like a kindegartener wrote it!

I wouldn't worry about it. None of my letters are in yet. According to my Student Affairs office, the end of September is basically an unofficial deadline for LOR's.

Don't worry about letters too much now...even if they don't get uploaded until October. No need to panic at this point.

WOW, I am feeling very behind schedule.
In case anyone was feeling bad about themselves feel better 'cause here's where I'm at :I am still doing my CV so I can give it to my letter writers. I haven't done my personal statement and at this point my AMCAS personal statement is looking more and more attractive...and I am supposed to be doing all this while studying for step 2 (I'm taking it on Oct.1) 🙁
Soooo, I am feeling very stressed right now!
Hope someone feels better!

You are not alone, I promise. I still have some serious work to do before I submit as well. You'll be OK!

This will be my last post until I finish my personal statement. I'm imposing voluntary SDN sanctions on myself until the bloody thing is done!

Well done, Buttercupp! 👍

Why, now that you mention it, it IS beer o'clock (or wine o'clock)...or just ETOH o'clock!

Hope everyone is having a nice Labor Day; it's beautiful here in upstate NY! If only Step 2 wasn't 11 days away... :scared:

Personal statement down, certification at the end of the week. Hopefully the last PS I'll ever have to write in my life... 😴

Excellent! 👍

Now that this whole process is finally underway, perhaps I can REALLY prepare for Step 2. Sept. 16 is coming fast. :scared:

Thanks alot Quant! I do feel a lot better now. I am actually done with my CV and I have a rough draft of my personal statement! I'm getting there...slowly.

Good luck to everyone else who hasn't submitted yet. 😀

So, I just made the mistake of going into the USMLE Step 2 Forum 👎
I think I have an ulcer now. I feel like I must study until my eyes bleed. 🙁

I did that once. I rapidly retreated to the path forum and have not ventured to the USMLE forum again.

When I was in your position not that long ago, I had the same reaction to the Step 2 forum. It seemed that people were stressing way too much about this exam.

I didn't do very well on my clerkship shelf exams...so I thought I would bomb Step 2. But apparently the people who told me, "if you stayed awake during 3rd year, you'll do fine." They were right.

People in the Step 2 forum seem to suggest way too many books. You got people who say that they read Boards and Wards 5 times, First Aid for Step 2 twice, and were reading Crush Step 2. That's way too redundant. Pick the simplest of those 3 books, depend on your learning style, and skim through it. The most important thing is for you to do a Q&A book. Some people on the Step 2 forum would use USMLEWorld, Kaplan Qbank, and Kaplan Qbook. Again, way too much. I thought Kaplan Qbook was sufficient...in fact, that was doing too much too.

Thanks Andy. I think my B/P went down a little when I read that.
I'm pretty much doing Qbank, MKSAP and B and W. Good enough for government work, I think.

I made the same mistake the other day! I even did the 4 hour NBME self-assessment yesterday 😕 I did about the same as last year, so I guess I should expect about the same on Step 2 (My actual Step 1 was within 3 points of my NBME exam).

Oops. I just realized that I may have turned this into a Step 2 thread! No more about this horrid exam...Except to say that 3 review books is overkill. I'm using First Aid and B & W, along with USMLE world. Let's hope "world" IS more difficult than the actual exam!

Okay, no more from me on Step 2. My apologies to all!

It is BS. People post crap like "I did well on step II here is my list of books! Crush the boards, pathology for dummies, review of micro, review of pharm, first aid, internal medicine in 5 minutes, review of surgery, and Hilary Clinton's autobiography (for inspiration)" It's all crap. You can get so bogged down in review books that you forget to actually study.

Get yourself one review book and do practice questions. If there is an area you are having trouble with, review it. If you otherwise do well on the practice questions, you'll do fine. Don't spend $1000 on review books just because you can.

Please don't stress about step 2! Really, it's not that scary once you get in there (but yeah, the week before is always a bit rough! I took it in July)... you will all do great. I think a lot of it is just a big old mind game- if we can beat our own fears we can beat the test 🙂

Best of luck :luck: ... please try and take some time to enjoy the weekend. Actually sunshine and fresh air may be just as helpful as pouring through Crush the Boards! Sending happy thoughts your way...

No way man. If there's an area you're having trouble with just a few areas, you can ignore it. Don't be a chicken...just assume that questions on this area won't show up on your exam. Step 2 isn't that important anyways. P=MD. Thank you.

I'm only being half serious...well, actually 3/4-serious.

Here I go-
Today is the deadline I set for myself.
Gonna push the button some time b4 midnight.
