Do you intend to stay in that area of research? Is AndyMilonakis your real name?
I'm also on the MD/PhD track (did it backasswards - PhD first then off to medschool), but finishing the PhD really burned me out on bench science. So I went back for medicine. How do you plan to balance your Clinical/Research time after residency?
OC.

What is this, man? 20 questions? just kidding.
What was your dissertation on?
Epithelial cell polarity/tight junction biogenesis.
Do you intend to stay in that area of research?
Maybe, maybe not. Don't really know at this point.
Is AndyMilonakis your real name?
Yes, Andy Leviathan Milonakis is my full name. I am the son of Greek immigrants. (just kidding...no, it's not my real name).

So far, my plan is to do mainly research. I will do clinical duties as needed to keep putting food and booze on the table. Seriously though, I'm not striving to do 50%/50%...I think one has to be smart (and drink massive amounts of Red Bull) to pull that off. I'm thinking maybe 90%/10% perhaps? Time will tell. :)

Can't one just do very little of each? ;)

Just kidding. We have had this conversation before.

I wonder which 50 "teaching" comes under.

Ha!

Wasup badass. Speaking of booze, there's a liquor store literally a few blocks from my condo here and I need to make a beer run. What sucks about this state though is that you can't buy alcohol at the grocery stores like you could in Michigan. You actually have to go to a dedicated liquor store

Give me a ring whenever you're in town. I'm gonna keep my same cell #.

Cheers :)

Do you know why that is? It's a strange massachusetts law which says that you can't sell liquor on sunday. And supermarkets thus don't stock liquor because if they were open on sunday they would have to clear out the liquor and then put it back the next day.

I think the odd thing is that the law was recently changed, so at least some stores are allowed to sell liquor on sundays. Perhaps it depends on the county, or the classification of the store. Either way, supermarkets aren't jumping on the bandwagon.

The different thing though is if you want hard liquor you don't have to ask for them to get it from behind the counter - you can just pull it off the shelf and buy it. That's a weird quirk I have noticed in michigan liquor stores. Wine and beer and porno is all out in the open. Vodka etc is behind the counter with the cigarettes.

Interesting. I think I heard something along those lines....something about Quakers wanting to give their livers a rest on Sundays. Oh well.

As for Michigan liquor stores...can't say I've been to any of them during my 7 years there. There was not point in going there. Meijer or Kroger was open 24/7 and their selection was sufficient for my purposes. If not, I would just go to Whole Foods...speaking of which, I was planning on getting a few box cases of some of my favorite wines before moving. I'm kicking myself for not doing so. My storage area in the basement could serve as a nice little, half-ass, wine cellar.

In WA grocery stores can't sell any alcohol between 2am and 6am. They just put up little fliers that say so. Why would it all have to come down, as long as it's just not purchased?
I think the same applies to Michigan but it might be after midnight. No fliers though...it was just some stupid law that was engrained into the thoughtless minds of the people in the Michigan Matrix. I just remember one night where I tried to purchase a 6-pack around 1 am and I got yelled at.

"Put that back on the shelf! You're a *bleep* alcoholic! You need help!"

It is probably closed down at whatever hours the bars are required to have last call by. I think the whole reason you can't buy at that hour is because the bar owners bitch if they can't sell alcohol but grocery stores can. I dunno. I think if people are going to drink and be stupid the hour the bar closes isn't going to change it. I don't see why they have to legislate what hour the bar closes at.

So I was driving home late Friday night, listening to two guys on a late night radio show. And who are they talking about, but none other than Andy Milonakis!

Andy Milonakis sings The Superbowl Is Gay!

No wonder the boys are smitten!

At long last, I think I finally understand ;)

Per Wikipedia, the "boy" is 29 years old. Or should I say, a 29 y/o comedian playing a teenager.

I've never watched the show itself, but the IMDB gives a fairly good sense of what it was like (pix, quotes etc.)

When I said "I think I finally understand", I meant "You crazy Americans!" :p

Nah. I just meant I could see how some people (like those who like South Park?) would find it appealing.

He's 29?! The way how he looks and talks makes me think he's an adolescent or teenager.

I find that difficult to believe. It's not that he's not displaying gender-appropriate behaviour, it's that he's displaying age-inappropriate behaviour!
