Sure there's some may be some crossover in salaries, but at a given place, MDAs will make more than CRNAs. Someone can correct me if they know of an arrangement otherwise. Actually, I've heard of CRNA practices that will hire MDAs to provide supervision so in that case it's possible.
Anesthesia residencies have actually cut slots over the last
10 years to better match the supply of interested candidates.
As of the 2003 match, some porgrams still went unfilled so I don't see an increase is spots justifiable yet.
There will probably always be a deficit of MDAs in the most rural areas where CRNAs are prevalent. Same holds true for other specialties in rural areas. Someone has to provide care.
