I'm an MS2 interested in EM and anesthesia so I've been planning on using my two 3rd year elective months to check them out. However, it turns out my first month as a 3rd year is an elective and my second one is much later in the year. I figure it's smarter to use the later one for EM.

Thoughts on doing anesthesia as my very first clinical rotation? Thanks!

little risk. I did this (including the late-year EM elective).

1 - nobody expects you to be good at procedures, so don't worry about lack of experience
2 - many of the questions you'll be asked are likely basic science, and you'll be fresh off step one.

don't over think it.

And, as obtuse as many attendings can be, most can tell the difference between June and February and adjust their expectations accordingly.

Sweet, thanks for the replies and reassurances. Gas it is!
