Anesthesia average step 1 and back up plans

On and off lurker looking for advice. I go to medical school in the southeast and my school doesn't have a program. My step 1 is low 230s (right around where the anesthesia average is), pre-clinicals a mix of honors and high pass, and clinicals with all pass so far (I did have 1 remediation in a clerkship due to a poor evaluation which I had to take a remedial course for to get a pass. To my knowledge this will be mentioned in my MPSE). Don't have research, ECs include random volunteering/teaching (minimum required for school) and anesthesia workshop stuff that my school's group hosted, I was an officer for a year. I am in touch with anesthesiologists at the hospitals near my school who I have an elective with and one away scheduled, waiting on a second one. Everyone from past students who matched I keep in touch with to some school admins tell me I'll be fine since anesthesia is not that competitive compared to other stuff, but lately I've been thinking that I need to be smart about 4th year and be ready for anything. Any advice for how I should realistically proceed from here? Do I need to do two aways? I don't really have attachements anywhere so I'm open to going anywhere from here.

When did you apply for your away rotations? Is it too late to apply at this point?

I'm applying now. I have one away schedule and waiting to hear back another one. I don't think it's too late to apply. I know anesthesia isn't super competitive, but we had a day to review how we're applying for ERAS and stuff and I think I got rattled most people in my group are >250s AOAs with several pubs and other activities...

Did you match at a place that you did an away at? Do you mind sharing your comlex scores? Do you feel that your comlex scores were factored in by PD's at the places you were invited for interviews?
