Hey guys,

Im a fourth year medical student. I am interested in anesthesia and want to know how many weeks elective should i do in anesthesia. I have done a 4 week till now but am considering doing another 4 weeks at a hospital that has a residency program.

One elective is sufficient if you got a letter. Doing a rotation at a place with a residency will give you a different outlook on the field, and you can get some insight into what it's like to be an anesthesia resident. Additionally, if you are interested in the program it may help you get an interview. If you have the time I'd recommend it. It won't likely hurt you unless you really screw off.
 
You can do your second rotation in an anesthesia subspecialty such as pain management or critical care. If you can get a letter from critical care, it'll be good for anesthesia and prelim medicine/ transitional year.
