Anesthesia Groups in Tucson Arizona

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anesthetics market there is surprisingly affordable. Diamorphine goes for about $20/vial. Fentanyl powder is cheap, but you have to reconstitute it. I've seen local anesthetics like neurocaine go for as low as $50 a bag.

As far as anesthesia groups are concerned, there are a few that operate around Tucson, but they generally abuse the new hires. Sinoloa Anesthesia Associates is the biggest one there, but the president of the group was just put in jail, so there's a lot of infighting.

Which Tucson are you talking about?

Whoosh, just realized he was talking about a drug cartel.

But, I was curious about the Tucson market as well. Haven’t really been back since I left for medical school.

Anyone that has work with SAA could you give me idea about the group by Private message
Thanks

Hi all, I'm a partner at SAA (Southern Arizona Anesthesia) and also a long time lurker at SDN. I don't think many of my partners read SDN and since this site helped get me through med school/residency, I thought I would chip in with some information.

I'm one of the newer members at SAA (a bit over 3 years out) and I am loving it here. We are a physician only group with over 70+ anesthesiologists. New hires gain financial equality after only one year. 6 months later, they become official partners with voting rights (total=1.5 years before making full partner). Vacation is 8 weeks for new hires and more for partners.

With the recent threads on SDN about AMCs, I would definitely recommend checking SAA out, especially as a new grad. In my opinion, doing your own cases out of residency/fellowship is invaluable in cementing all your technical skills/decision making. The group is very fair and we have an awesome group of anesthesiologists who are always willing to help/share wisdom.

Tucson is actually a great city with a low cost of living. All my out of town visitors are always surprised at the beauty of the desert/mountains as well as the abundance of vegetation (our cactus are second to none 😉). The weather is amazing during fall/winter/spring. Don't let the summer heat intimidate you because I promise that it will always be freezing in the OR.

If anyone has more specific questions, feel free to private message me.
