When do interviews for anesthesia programs start sending invites? And when is it best to go, early November or later like end of December?

My interviews seemed to have come in two waves. I got a bunch starting the day after I submitted my ERAS followed by a relatively quiet period. The second wave came after my Dean's Letter was submitted. As far as when to go, I personally feel that it did not matter much to me, but I'm sure others have their own opinions. I think I did schedule some of the less competetive programs first as back-ups and warm-ups though.

Thanks for that. Did you submit on the first day or wait a little?

hmmm...after reading this I was still okay with the fact that I have yet to get any invites until I read this 2 seconds later...

I had submitted my appilication on the first day.

funny...me too

hmmm....(remaining calm and silent and secretly trying not to freak out)

I agree. Was this several years ago when anesthesia was less competitive? If so, maybe that has something to do with it.

I looked at the old interview thread (from last year) and it seems like the first place to offer interviews was SLU (9/9 was the first date I saw). UAB sent stuff via snail mail around 9/15, and emory called ppl about 9/10ish. I didnt apply to SLU, but I'm starting to think about it just so I can possibly get a invite from someone. Back to usmleworld and checking my email every 10 secs.

That's strong work...thanks for the info...and I did apply to SLU...so I guess I have until Saturday to freak out and if no one calls me by Saturday, then I can curl up in the corner and cry...okay fine! I'll give it until Monday...and that's only because I'm on call all day and night Saturday and I don't think my residents would appreciate my sentimentality...I'll just cry on the inside

My experience was from last year's application cycle. Don't worry, things gradually pick up as the months progress. I think most of my interview invites came in November (or whenever it was that dean's letters were sent out).

Guys, relax.

I didn't apply until after Thanksgiving.

No LOR's from anesthesia attendings.

Interview dates were from December to February.

And I'm an IMG/FMG/whatever.

Matched in one of my top five choices. Even turned down an out of spot match from IVY league hospital in Northeast.

Oh...I'm not really that neurotic...and I'm not a cryer so don't worry...I'm actually doing just fine...sometimes it's hard to portray true sarcasm or silliness on boards like this....actually, I'm more excited than anything to get this underway...and I am eagerly awaiting invites Vs being scared I won't get them...if that makes sense

Still doesn't mean I want to wait until mid November to get invites....that just stinks because my impatience might start to rear it's ugly head 😉

i got most of mine late sept early october as i recall. I didnt get anything after November.

In terms of when to go, try to schedule one interview as practice (some program that you have a good shot at but might not rank very high) first. Then go to your top choices. Don't save your top choices for later in the cycle because you will get "interview fatigue". It's inevitable.

To everybody who answered, just wanted to say thanks. Good information.🙂

BID acknowledged my existence today with about 5 copies of the same email (followed by an apology email for the error) saying they fill their invites on a rolling basis after MSPE's are released and the app has to be complete yadda yadda yadda

so that makes JHU and BID both schools that wait until MSPEs to offer invites

Have received the same 2 emails.
