Can some of u anesthesiologist share ur experiences on how much research helped u on getting ur anesthesia residency. Im asking cuz im doing anesthesia research right now and prolly gonna get published. I wanted to keep doing these papers and get published a couple more times if possible, but just wanted to know how much this type of stuff helped u get into ur respective programs.

Thanks

Omar

It definitely helps if you want to get into the more research oriented programs like Hopkins, MGH, UCSF.

any comments on the usefulness of (M)ICU research and papers? Do anesthesia programs appreciate IM-type publications as much as strict anesthesia papers? What about pharmacology (esp. kinetics) papers?

i don't think the programs care so much about whether your research is focused toward anesthesiology. if you are fired up about research, that excitement is what's most important to convey to the programs. an icu focus is totally appropriate...on the trail last year, it really seemed as though programs were looking for people interested in intensive care. so, if you like research AND icu...you'll be more than fine.

of course, most people will be fine even without the research...

best of luck to everyone on this year's match!!!!:)
