For a student who scores around a 220 and is desiring an anesthesia residency in the BIG Apple, what programs would you guys recommend that are moderately competitive? I'm hoping to get settled out east and my dream has always been to end up in NY so any advice would be great. Thanks!

According to a few of my friends who went into anesthesia if the rest of your application is very strong (ie high class rank, great research, great LORs) it can still get you interviews at the big programs even with a Step 1 in the 220s.

Good luck.

If you're set on NYC, definitely do an away rotation there.
Then, apply to them all: Columbia, Cornell, Sinai, NYU, SLR.
There are a few more in the outer boroughs that are not as good as those Manhattan 5.
