"The high pay for anesthesiologists reflects inherent stress in a job that is literally about life and death. "Anesthesiologists get patients safely and intact through operations while surgeons do things that would otherwise kill them," says Roger Moore, president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. The big salaries are also a payback for the 12-plus years of training required before an anesthesiologist can start practicing"

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's tacky to talk about our salaries to the public. Who the hell singled out our speciatly to CNN as the highest paid? WTF. I don't want the spotlight shining on us... especially when we are NOT the highest paid.

I couldn't agree with you more....and not to mention the fact that they put CRNAs on that list also, making an astounding 177k/yr and highlighted the same reasons for their high pay as they did for anesthesiologists. Something doesn't seem right about how this list was made...especially becuse as you said, we are sooooo FAR from the highest paid...um can we say radiologists?, derm?, optho?

i didnt know neurosurgeons made less than anesthesiologists

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but it would not shock me if this was instigated by the AMA since many anesthesiologists have been vocal about how Obama's plan will single out anesthesiologists. Because we are not on board with his plan, the uber liberal CNN and the unbelievably flawed AMA leadership may be trying to rein us in by turning the public against us as "overpaid."

Oi... Someone who is braver than I am please reply to that CRNA post so the general public doesn't think we're equal to them.
