do you think all applicants are all viewed as "equal", with the performance on the interview ultimately determin applicant's rank in the program's eyes?

or is the interview just like it appears, a single factor in the applicant's profile?

obviously one cant blow off the significance of the interview, but just how important is the interview?

i would like to hear the opinions of those who have recently gone through the interview process.

Board scores and grades are important. I think interviews may help you differentiate yourself from those nearby you with respect to those elements, but unless someone really blows it, you won't be vaulting ahead of a numerically superior candidate.

When I went on interviews I had the feeling that programs already had a pretty good idea of who they wanted. Some even admitted this. Much of the interview process is just a formality to make sure you look as good in person as you do on paper. A good interview could certainly help you clinch a position, but I think it's far easier to fall down the list.

Totally agree with Bass. I felt that many interviews were just set up to see how interested I was in the program. I'm sure they can tell if you are less than enthusiastic about the place when you're there, and I was at a few places. They want to rank people highly that have both the scores and the desire to rank them highly.
