Anesthesiology Personalities???
Started by doc3341
You need to be a kick ass fist fighter!
...and have testicles of steel.
....be able to shoot the testicles off of a fly from 100 yards...then ride your Superbike at 150 mpg going home...and drag your knee in the corners.
...or cleavage to distract the surgeon...
but seriously, most anesthesiologists i know, which is admittedly not too many, are very laid back, cool, happy people.

Proficiency in the art of ninjitsu is most definitely an asset 👍

Yea, maybe if your a girl. A real anesthesiologist should be able to bench at least a thousand.
Limited observation here.
The anesthesiologists I've met seem to be relatively laid-back. Most of them have quite a few interesting hobbies outside of medicine, and enjoy playing the stock market. With that said, I think you need to be a laid-back, cerebral type of person b/c you need a cool head when things go bad, b/c they typically go bad fast... real fast. Being cool under pressure is definitely a plus if you wanna do something where your patients may be teetering on the edge of crumping, so the dudes I've met tend to follow above desription.

Cool
good analytical skill
Must be able to act fast
Good social skills
Be fearless to a certain extent
Know your limitations
Be able to work under stress (sometimes severe stress)
Should be ready to work under code situations (24/7)
Basically you have to LOVE anesthesia ..... only then can you be a good anesthesiologist

...to trump the surgeon's shi**y musical selection once they're scrubbed
I agree with all of the above, plus one must also possess mad breakdancing skills. If this guy is a physician then he's definitely an anesthesiologist.

Other than that, I believe great anesthesiologists must:
enjoy basic sciences
has excellent dexterity
be confident in one's abilities
be a team player, but command respect over everyone in the OR, even surgeons
strong one on one personal skills
have adaptability with daily schedules
have a strong work ethic
retain the ability to make sound decisions and act like everything is under control when everyone else is flustered.
And most importantly, one should just be a bad-ass (think Brad Pitt in the movie Snatch).

doc3341, i know where you are coming from with trying to figure out where you are going... all the studying and not having a life will be easier if you see the light at the end of the tunnel, right? don't worry. from the first day of the first year i have changed my mind several times as to what kind of doctor I wanted to be and you probably will too. the thing that was first on my list is now LAST...and something I never considered is all I want to be. Wait until third year and you will see things first hand and you will say to yourself I could NEVER do or be that... and then you will see something that feels right and you could see yourself doing. don't worry it will come third year. for now, study as hard as you can and try to do well on the boards so you have as many options as possible.
After a month of anesthesiology, I learned that an anesthesiologist gets his/her power from the force. you must feel the force flow through you, once you can quiet your mind and listen to the force, a master you will become.😀

That was sick and on his finger tips 😱
puhh, an amature. he needed both hands! that might get you a residecy spot, but he better lose the training wheel before the oral boards 😎
I like to fart a lot and blame the patient.
Anesthesia sure seems to attract a lot of introverts who like to work alone.Good social skills
Personal characteristics? Having a pet monkey never hurt. Train him in the fighting arts and dress him up like a Butler and he serves dual function as a butler and attack monkey.
oh man, that was so dope. i'm gonna do no-legged pushups during my oral boards!
