Hello,

When taking practice PAT problems on paper, I can easily get them by cover the uneven lines to make them even. Is this a strategy I can use on the real DAT? Can I cover a part of the computer screen?

Thanks

No, you cannot touch the computer screen. 🙁

Is this something they tell you at only some testing centers, because today I talked to 2 different people from the ADA, someone from Prometric customer service, and someone from my local Prometric testing center and they all said that there was no rule against touching the computer screen with my hands and I would not get in trouble for it.

Can you move your arms or fingers or dry-erase pens to mimic the angle (without touching the screen)?

I use my thumbs to make the close angles really small which makes it a lot easier to distinguish and even though ppl are saying you can't touch the screen I talked to 4 different testing ppl on the phone today who said you can

Covering with my thumbs is exactly what I do also.

Baseballplayer 9, I will call the testing centers on Monday also, but it is great to hear that I can do this on the DAT.

Ya it was good news! but let me know what you find out anyways

LOL the prometric ppl may allow it. but once the ada ppl watch the video of you taking the exam, they will send you a nice letter that says your scores are cancelled and you are banned from taking the test again. Hmm...ill go with getting 5 angles problems wrong instead

I talked to two people directly from the ADA who said that there is no rule against touching the screen.. and I specifically asked him if anyone has ever had there score cancelled/disqualified becasue of this and they said no.

The ADA is NOT going to review all 12000 or so test takers video footage of 4 hours each. the money we pay isn't enough to justify it. They'll do random samples and review those that the test center flags as being suspicious. So it does give people room to sneak by.

But the ADA leaves a lot of the discretion of policy violations up to the test center and their employees. they have at their discretion to ask you to leave if they feel what ever you are doing is not in the up and up. Even if the ADA does not feel it is.

plus when you signed up to take the test you agreed to item #6 of conduct.

"You will comply with test center policies and procedures and follow the instructions of the test administrator. You will not create a disturbance in the testing center."

I guarantee you that the ADA will point to that item in majority of disputes.

Unless you spoke to some upper level ADA people, I wouldn't trust what some rep says. They are there to assist everyone and likely do not hold any power if you will in deciding what exactly valid and not. They probably won't stick their neck out to defend you either.

I just got off the phone with a rep and she very promptly replied that test takers can't touch the screen. I'll go with that.

But I can hold my finger a few inches from my eye to simulate screen coverage and that works just as well!

The ADA people don't sit there watching all 10,000 videos for 5 hours each to see if you touched the screen. That's 50,000 hours total. You really think they have the manpower or desire to do that? (Even if they did, it would take at least 2 years to get through a whole year's worth of testing.)

What are you people smoking? I want some of that!

And how do you think the ADA would be able to receive the video. A 5-hr video file is around 10 GB. You think these video files get emailed by Prometric at the end of each day?

People, use some common sense.

Kinda like drunk driving. You're probably not gonna get caught, but if you do, it's not gonna be good news.

If you want to risk it, go ahead. What are the odds right?

Yup. nice analogy. when you're the person who happens to be part of their sample you're out of luck.

I bet the ADEA is more likely to review unusually high scores, but you always take that chance, I would not touch the screen if I were you.

Seriously what is wrong with some of you? You are CHEATING if you use your fingers, plain and simple. It is specifically stated in the rules that you can NOT use your fingers as a measuring device. Just because you didn't get caught or think you will not get caught DOES NOT mean you should do it! It does not matter what the prometric people say, it doesn't even matter what the ADA reps say - they did not write the rules! they can be misinformed, or you phrased your question "innocently" - I mean, if you told me that you are just touching the screen, I wouldn't be against that. But if you told me that you were touching the screen so you can tell the difference between two angles because you used your hand to assist you, nobody would say yes to that.

you are going to be video recorded! you are not allowed to touch the screen nor hold any subjects in front of the screen

I didn't not know this was cheating.

I didn't see any rule against.

I won't do it. I didn't mean to break the rules. I wouldn't have posted this question had I known it was cheating.
