For those of you who have taken the animal nutrition class online...

I know for many of the programs you have a max of one year, but realistically how long does it take to complete? Could I say, start taking it in May and finish it by July-August?

Also, I've heard the Oklahoma class is fairly easy, any tips or impressions? How much work is required for the class?

I'm trying to determine if I could take this class, study for the GRE, work at my job (~20 hours per week), volunteer, and gain more hours shadowing vets without pulling my hair out!!

I just finished the class myself. Doing the assignments isn't too bad, you just have to read the chapter and then do the work at the end and email it to the teacher. The only problem I had was finding someone that could proctor my tests for me. The choices of who can proctor your test are fairly slim but once you find them its ok. I thought the tests were fairly difficult and I found the assignments to be mostly busy work. Especially the last assignment in the book, you have to write like two 5 pages papers. It took me like 6 months to f inish it just because I was so busy with school and then when I had free time, there was no motivation. I bet if you really put your nose to the grindstone you could finish it very quickly, it all depends on how much you want to work.

I know there are other threads about this topic, but I'll give my 2cents anyway

I did the purdue animal nutrition. Very do-able over the summer. I pretty much did all the work for it over winter break last year. 3 tests (very fair) and a final project.

Thanks for the posts! Actually, if anyone has more information from any online animal nutrition class would it be appreciated!

For the OK state class, there were 13 writing assigements and 5 exams. The exams were tougher than expected, so if you don't study you will be in trouble for things you are not that familiar with. I finihed it in 10 months, but I was poking around taking my time.

I did think the writing assignments were tedious. The last 3 WA's were something like this: make up three questions that haven't been addressed in this chapter. Anser the question and then address the strengths and weaknesses for each question. I think the minimum number of pages for these last three chpts were 6.....for each chapter. I got an A....but tedious. I just felt OK state was so friendly and the course was set up so easily that it was my best option.

I m currently taking the online nutrition course at NCSU. It is very doable even if busy. There are a lot of notes. There are a total of 5 test, it is on a certain time table so if you need motivation to do work this class certainly has it. The test are multiple choice, 100 ?. Some of the questions are hard to pick out from the notes, however the instructor give ample opportunities for extra credit points. We meet online every Wed. night for a ?answer time and have some other meetings for lectures from other people. Hope THis helps🙂 Feel free to conact me if you have questions.

I took the actual class at OKSU. It wasn't hard at all. I would think that the online course couldn't be any worse. It was fun in class though - the professor made mayonnaise, and then gagged when he tasted it. Lol. He also explained why the sphincter is the "coolest muscle ever." Fun stuff.

I'm still a sophomore undergrad so I don't really know what you all are talking about. Are you talking about a nutrition class, program, or certification? Are you taking it during vet school? I'm really interested in equine nutrition and want to take some classes on it but my school doesn't offer any. Does any one have any ideas of where I can take a class or know of any nutrition certifications(equine preferably)?
Sorry for asking so many questions!

Some of the vet schools require an Animal Nutrition class as a prerequisite, but many undergrad schools don't offer one so people have to take them online. That's what they're talking about.

Thanks for the reply.
Do you know where online? (specific site/school)

Capella's link above is a good place to look.

Schools that offer the course online: Rutgers, NCSU, oklahoma , and Perdue
