i was just wondering if pharmacy students are required to perform tests on lab animals. the pharmacists i work under tell me that they had to test on animals when they were in school. they were in pharmacy school some time in the 80's.

Those students who chose to work in a lab will work with lab animals. Most of us don't.

Physiology courses way back when involved a lot of animal testing in the labs... not so much anymore. This is according to my Physiology teacher that did his undergraduate back in the 60's. He was always telling us about the experiments they did when he was in school--some of which were pretty greusome.

the animal testing at my school has become your lab partner.......

we've given each other shots and done physicals....

we do not have a lab with physiology or any of our chem classes.

i honestly don't know of any research requiring animal testing going on on campus.

We had to dissect rats in A&P for some dumb reason. The cadavers did not provide a thourough enough overview? 😕

Not all schools make you take A&P or study cadavers. If cadavers bother you, pick your schools carefully.

what do i do, just call the school and say ummmm....i was just wondering if you study cadavers? i dont think i would get accepted if i were to do that!!!

My only dissecting was in undergrad when I took vertebrate zoology. We did a shark, a frog, a cow heart and a cat. The professor made us name all of our animals, so we could recognize them when they were brought out of the freezer each week.

A & P or animal phys. were prerequisites for UF. We only take pathophysiology in pharm school. Our prof told us that they used to use cadavers several years ago, but it got too expensive.

Perhaps it has to do with the course name in pharmacy school....

Here it is Physiology/Pathophysiology and there is no dissecting.
