animals gametophyte?!?!

just a quick Q, it says in destroyer:

"in plants the haploid gametophyte is multicellular while in animals it is unicellular"

do animals have gametophyte?!?!....does he mean animal's "gametes" are unicellular??....I have never seen animals gametes called "gametophyte" before

Plants alternate in generations from sporophyte (2n) to (1N) spores that develop into gametophytes, and later gametes.

Animals sex cells are haploid we call them gametes.
