What do you guys think about making anki flashcards out of the pathoma videos by taking screen shots while going through the videos? I currently use firecracker and I retain A LOT, and my only problem with anki in the past has been making the actual flashcards.

Is anyone here interested in tackling the entirety of Pathoma together and making really high yield flashcards? My test is in June and I want to knock these out by March-April.

Or, does this sound like a waste of time...?

I appreciate the advice.

Hasn't it already been done? Have you tried searching for the decks?

If you have FC then it sounds like a waste of time.

I did this too. Its pretty quick.

  • Push "print screen"
  • open paint
  • paste,
  • crop
  • select all and copy
  • paste into the "answer" area on an anki card
  • go back to the paint file
  • select rectangle with solid fill
  • black out the information you want to memorize
  • select all
  • copy
  • paste into the "question" are on an anki card
😉

Honestly though I thought the most high yield thing in pathoma was his doodles. I had a folder of print screened shots of them. Somehow when I looked at his doodle I was able to recall all the patho phys.

If you have a mac, the "grab" app is awesome, especially through the "selection" function. You're basically taking a cropped screen shot of only the material you're interested in seeing. Cuts out all the crop work associated with just using the "print screen" function. I do this with most of my prep materials, especially pathoma and qbank images, and paste them into anki cards. If you don't have a mac, I think evernote makes some kind of free extension (skitch? something like that) where you can do the same thing.

A windows application that is analogous to that is called 'Greenshot'

If you have windows and Microsoft One Note, if you hit the "windows" button on your keyboard and the "S" key at the same time (with one note running in the background) it'll bring up a box you can use to take screenshots. The first time you do it it will ask where you want to send it, but you can choose to send it to your clip board without the message coming up again. Then just Ctrl+V into anki.
I use it all the time to move stuff from pathoma vids, online text books, etc to anki (eg a snap shot of the path slide as it comes up on the front of the card, then another one with his doodles and a quick explanation on the back). It also "freezes" the screen at that exact moment in time making it very easy to get the exact pic you want.
