I will be doing Dr. Willbe's path + yousmle anki decks along with my courses which will be around around 7k cards to power through in a year. Has anyone that recently took step1 and consistently did anki throughout the year found it helpful? Is it a realistic goal?

I consistently used a step 1 anki deck (basically that old slyfaux deck that used to go around...pretty much FA turned into a deck) throughout 2nd year. I started slow and ramped up as time went on, roughly only 10-12 new cards per day in the early fall, probably about 20 by early winter, and 30-40 per day by the spring. The deck was about 7000 cards and I had finished all new ones by may. I always did all my reviews, like I didn't cap it at all. Doing this I was still able to make very good grades on my block exams and my first diagnostic NBME in january was at a 220, well into the 240s before dedicated period. So, I felt it prepared me very well and it didn't prevent me from excelling in class. Oh and I would ramp up new cards per day during holidays, so over winter break I probably did like 40 - 50 new cards per day.

hei, I also use anki flashcard on my step 1 and 2ck study. the key to study anki really fast is to review it right after u make it, then the day after, then 4 days after. another key is the type of questions you wrote. if you focused on the "why" instead of the "what", its faster and easier to recall because its concept based. Also, if you wrote >3 answers in the card, it will slow you down.

if its your own card and you write it down right, you can review 400 flashcard in <3 hours.
