Okay, so i finally thought i was getting the hang of gen chem, but i busted out one of those Kaplan Integration Workshop tests for DAT/OAT, and i was NOT doing well. Anyone else experiencing this? I know Kaplan has a rep for having some more difficult calculation problems then necessary, but i'm not sure what's attributing to this: the difficulty or my sucking. Probably the latter...

I'm in the same boat. Out of all of the subjects gen chem is by far the weakest. soo frustratinggg!!! 😡

how about getting a chemistry book and practice more in the chapters that you have more difficulty in. this is what i am going to do.

I agree, there seems to be a lot of calculations in Kaplan. There was a Hess's law problem that took me several minutes to finish. Is it going to be like that on the real DAT?

yah your right those g chem on the kaplan and especially the math part are ridiculous. As they say for mcat the aamc tests make kaplan's look like hell. so yah they are harder.

I THINK, Kaplan makes most of their material harder....

because of THEIR HIGHER SCORE guaranteed.

at least, i hope this is the case, to be overally prepared? 🙂 🙁

i dont know.

i dont know.

The higher score guarantee just guarantees that your score will go up from your diagnostic score. It does not guarantee that your actual score will be higher than your kaplan scores.

kaplan problems were much harder. No problem on the real test will take more than a minute to calculate.

As most ppl said, Kaplan is harder than the real thing. I did poorly on the chem section in almost all kaplan practice, around an average of 17, but end up getting a 25 on the real test..so dont worry too much.

You rock for saying this because 17s are exactly what I am getting on Kapalan's gen. chem exams. One problem required me to actually hand calculate the cubed root of some non-base 10 number! Insane. I know that is number ^ 1/3 but hell, I don't know how to calculate that. 😛
