I have relocated this thread because of lack of attention from the medical student forum.

I know there are plenty of threads about a criminal background on the pre med threads. But I wanted to get some feedback from those of you that actually have a "Background", had to furnish this information on your application to medical school, and still got admitted. I would like to know if there is anyone out there that actually was able to get into med school despite a criminal history. Only reason why I am considering medical now is because I love the sciences, I am now an honor student at a university here in New York, and I also have a family legacy of medicine, so it only seems sound that I move forward into health.

I know everyones situation isnt the same, but I guess everyones stories would give me some reassurement into proceeding into med school, as I have 1 misdemeanor for resisting arrest that occured years ago and have been clean since. Im not asking about your thoughts on my circumstances, just if there were a few med students or will be's out there that have somewhat of a similar situation with a criminal background and managed to get accepted. How did you succeed? Was there additional steps that had to be taken etc. Again, your feedback is deeply appreciated. Again I just want to state that I am doing research of my own and Will be talking to the medical schools and the boards about my situation before I proceed, but it would be great to have someone with real life experience explain their success despite a criminal history.

If you were given an expungement, technically speaking you don't have a criminal history. The law states that once you are given an expungement your criminal history record is gone. HOWEVER, there are a few situations where you still have to report an expunged record. These can include lisencure and getting clearance for a federal job (like the FBI).

As far as medical school goes, I don't know.
