Another C

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i had 5 Cs on my transcript:

psychology (didnt go to class)
chem I
chem II (not good at chem)
geography
calculus

my overall GPA came out to a 3.3 with those 5 Cs, and i got a 20AA DAT. i recieved three invites for interviews, UF, Nova, and NYU, out of the 8 schools I applied to. i am happy to say that I got into all three of those schools, so I dont think having a few Cs on your transcript is going to kill your chances

is that a 3.3 in science? what was your other gpa (science/cumul.) if you don't mind me asking. I plan on applying to those schools also and I'm worried since I have about 4 C's.

Don't stress too much about it, it's over and done and you did your best. For now concentrate on your DAT to try to alleviate the C's.

3.3 cum and 3.5 sci GPA. i see you are from florida. i chose UF out of the three (it was my first choice anyway). the school is amazing, the people are great, and i personally really like gainesville although a lot of ppl dont.

I am also from Florida. I just graduated UF and have heard bad things about UFCOD. For example, many of the professors are foreign and impossible to understand. The students are also very competitive. The dental school is pretty crummy looking. Well all of the shands area is.

I do not like to be a negative nancy, especially since this is where I went to undergrad, but can you tell me what you liked about to UFCOD. I would love to be persuaded otherwise because of the money you end up saving.

I am applying this cycle and would honestly pick NYU over UF because of the city and other factors. Maybe I am just tired of Gainesville. I don't know.

well, there are foreign teachers everywhere, and not just teachers, but people who dont speak english well are all over the place. also, dental students are competitive anywhere you go bc what it comes down to is more ppl want to specialize than will specialize. UF is by far the cheapest dental school for florida residents. the class size is relatively small (82) and you are guaranteed your own spot in sim lab, and getting chair time in clinics is not hard at all (coming from the 10-15 upper classmen that i talked to). you are right, shands is an old building, and the outside is not as nice as some other schools. however, the inside of the dental building is full renovated, the equipment is all new (including brand new digital x-ray systems), and there is ample space for everybody. UF is also one of, if not the highest funded research dental schools in the country. more opportunities for research equals more opportunities to specialize. i personally love small college towns like gainesville, but its not for everybody. i have so many more reasons that i chose UF, but we have really hijacked this person's thread. if you wanna chat more about it send me a PM.

Probably a C in genetics too. Great. There goes my science GPA. FML.

do admissions committee's look more towards the science gpa or overall gpa? my sci gpa is higher than my overall gpa by a bit, so im just curious

Well how is your gpa? I have a 3.4 cum gpa and 3.3 sci gpa and I'm very disappointed in it. I've been trying to pull it up but it's getting hard with all these tough courses.
