Hi guys,

I know you're probably sick of these, but I'm wondering if anyone has any input on my chances. 3.89 at the degree granting institution, 3.84 including community college. A's in all my prereqs so far. I'll have a BA in Linguistics by the time I apply. Major downside is I have no pharmacy experience and don't have the time to devote to becoming a pharm tech. I've spent a very significant amount of time figuring out what I want to do, so I'm 100% sure about pharmacy, having talked to pharmacists and having spent a lot of time on SDN and other sites, but again I lack experience. I'm looking apply to the following schools:

U of Colorado * I'm a resident of Colorado and they say residents have a much higher chance of admission than non-residents
U of Wyoming
U of Montana
Idaho State
UCSF
UNM

Thanks for your reply. In an ideal world, yes, everyone would know exactly what he/she was getting into prior to spending years and thousands of dollars getting there, but in many cases that is impossible by the very essence of the situation. I can't know what being a professor is like without getting a PhD. I can talk to professors, I can work with them, but I'll never know exactly what it's like until I'm doing it. I plan on going into Drug Information Pharmacy, and even if it were possible to do at this point, I don't see becoming a pharm tech at a retail pharmacy helping me to understand what DI will be like. Yes, I may end up working in retail if I can't find a position doing DI, but to me, that's a temporary measure, much like taking a restaurant job when you need money.

In any case, this is what I want to do, this is what I'm going to do, and I'd greatly appreciate any insight into my specific case. I'm sure there are many people who do get into pharmacy school without experience, but what about me? Does anyone know anything about the schools I'm applying to and how they would react to me? Obviously it's all speculation, but I'd appreciate any input.

It's impossible for me to honestly tell you how these schools will view you with your stats and without having experience. No one on this forum is on the admissions committees for these schools. What I can tell you is what I know, which is what I posted earlier. Just based on what you told me, I'd say you have a good shot of getting in, but nothing is set in stone. For most schools, what goes on at your interview can make or break you, so even someone with a 4.0, 99 PCAT, all the pharmacy experience in the world could go into an interview and be a real tool and not get in.

It may be helpful to find someone from these schools on SDN and talk to them about the schools' admission processes and their stats. You may also want to call the school and speak to an advisor.

This is about all the advice I can give to you. Hope it helps.

The "what are my chances threads" are abundant...

our mods are currently trying to clean up around here and make the posting experience more enjoyable.

perhaps bumping an old thread would have been a good idea, you could have posted your info in there!

i think we can all do our part by doing a simple search!
