We've all seen the hydroxycut commerical. Yesterday I saw another one. This time it was with a girl, apparently an anesthesiology resident, with a D.O. title.

What's the deal with DOs and weight-loss. Do you learn more about nutrition/weight-loss/metabolism in DO school than you do in MD school?

Naw... They just have more loans to pay off and are better looking so the commercial people like DO residents!

DO schools are easier, or haven't you heard? We have much more time to go to the gym and keep up with beauty appointments. We don't look as haggard as MD wanna-bees.

It starts in undergrad pre-med. Since DO students have lower premed numbers we don't sudy as hard their either so we have fewer 'study wrinkles' going in.

Have you seen the mug on some of those MD students! WOOSH! :meanie:

Ha! That's funny sunnyjohn! ( I haven't graduated yet to cool smilies and quotes yet.)

Personally, I think the exposure is good, so I'm not complaining.

its called free money in a entreprenural (sp?) world ... what is the major problem in the US?? obesity ... why not target the #1 problem in America via all these so-called diet pills??

unless you went to the med schools that individuals such as Cameron on House and the females on Grey's attended.

I don't know how much they paid the DO to sponsor the commerical, but I believe she makes around $50/commerical airing. How do I know, I asked someone who has done commercials before, now remember the pay will be hire if the whole commercial revolves around you. So start practicing your acting skills people, you've got loans to pay and acting is a good alternative to moonlighting, which I believe may be forbidden in many hospitals.

I dont know. I'm not sure I'd want to front a company whose product they sell is basically just ripping people off.

yeah, there's another commercial with a girl who's an MD.

there's yet another one with a pretty blond girl, and it says she's a 1997 "St. Luke's Medical Graduate." I checked it out, and st. luke's is a school in the phillipines !

let me get this straight....over the years we have seen countless Physicians promoting products on tv and most were MDs (b/c well most docs are MD's..)....and all of a sudden you see 2 DO's doing the same thing and you get upset about it?

From an earlier post ( http://forums.studentdoctor.net/show...5&postcount=15 ) :
I'd ***** it up something fierce for that kind of a payday. Hell, I might do a very graphic demonstration of how effective the new ED drug can be.

"I'm Dr. D.K. Murphy, DO and I took Hyperagra about 30 minutes ago. As you can see *drops pants* it really does work.....and I've got up to 4 hours, count them 4 hours to work my magic. As both a practicing physician and someone who has used Hyperagra with the result of inducing temporary inability to walk in my girlfriend, I strongly recommend it."

whoa there buddy!! settle down! take a chill pill..!! Who said I was upset?!

I just think it's kinda funny that the people who make these commercials are using DOs, considering that most of the general public has no idea what a DO is. I didn't know what osteopathic meant before coming on SDN. Makes me think that maybe these advertisers couldn't get an MD to do the job.

I found a St. Luke's in Arizona. I assumed they were talking about that one, but who knows. It doesn't really matter anyway. Even FMG's have to wh*re it up a little to pay for those loans.:meanie:

ehh...easy now...by upset I mean even worth taking the time to post about....I wish htere was a way to put your tone of voice into posts beyond the stupid smilies...

No you don't. He has Chlamydia and Trichomonas vaginalis.
Man I'm sick of micro. But it is cool knowing what diseases Drop Kick has.

I think I'll do a tv add about it and watch more people complain here on SDN. 👍 But hey, I'm just a squirrel trying to get a nut.

If the general public saw anyone in a lab coat on TV they are going to assume it's a doctor doesn't matter if they weren't they would just have little white letters underneath that says that this is an actor and flash it across the screen for 2 seconds. Who cares MD DO you wear a lab coat on TV your a doctor.

thats right...forgot.

I got them from your mom, then gave it to my wife and she gave it to you. Now we are all up to date.
A little redneck love triangle....
"JERRY JERRY JERRY"

BTW, we are all microbiologist.

I think the product actually works. I mean, it's most likely not as safe as losing weight more slowly by more traditional means, but it definitely DOES work. In what way do you think this might be ripping people off (hydroxycut)?
