I came across on yahoo home page this article, which lists "surprising" high income jobs. And guess what, pharmacists are among them. According to this dumb ass author, all pharmacists do nothing but "distribute drugs" and how we earn a 6-digit income is beyond him.

He is telling the truth. I think it is not nice to say ******* article. In my opinion, these are just short articles for entertainment. I also believe that there are many articles like this not only in pharmacy profession but also other areas. We should not take it seriously. People just have a general idea what a pharmacist does and that is all they care. People do not care how smart a pharmacist is or how much they make a year. We just have to ignore it, there are more important things to talk about like the future of pharmacy:shortage, surplus, so on... Keep thing positively.

+1. Sparing the "but that's where salaries are headed" diatribes for the moment...my ex thought that pharmacists started out at 35-40K per year. No joke. I still don't think she believed me when I told her what the current salary is.

Don't know about you but I care a great deal how smart people think I am. You dont have to be Einstein in your patients' mind but they have to think you are smart enough to listen to you.

Me: "Mr. Jones this Rx has a very dangerous interaction with your current medication. I'd like to call your Dr. to discuss about this".

Mr. Jones: "You're pharmacist. You are not smart and you make minimum wage after taking some online courses. Just fill the damn script will you or are you gonna shoot me like that pharmacist I saw on TV".

From what the media is portraying us, that's how the patients will see us. And I'm not being negative.

I think the more a pharmacist tries to be smart in front of people, the less likely they will think he or she is smart. If you are a smart pharmacist, you won't want to "act smart" in front of people. In stead, showing them your kindness, help them to solve the problems, then thing will come much easier. They will change thier attitude toward you, and perhap they will trust you and of course "smart or no smart" is not that important anymore in that kind of relationship.
